A quick preview of some jaunts. Photos to be posted soon.

A quick hike to Isabelle Lake on the 4th of July. A very close friend is in town unexpectedly due to daughter's medical reasons (Denver Children's hospital is one the best in the country for pediatric liver issues. Plus, there are a lot of us here to provide support. I provided support in the way that is embedded in my DNA. Cooked a ton of food and brought it over to their rental. :D ). My friend missed the Rockies (sorry..the Appalachians near Blacksburg ain't quite the same ;) ), so we took him for a short stroll that ended with this view:

Finally, on July 5th, my friend Mark did his last 14er (14000 ft plus peak). There are 54 "official" 14ers in Colorado. After many years and many miles, Mark submitted his last 14er. Along with his wife Judy, I helped celebrate.

The ridge approaching the summit

Cheap ass whiskey at 14047'. Mark and I somehow did not stumble down the mountain. :)
As a side note, seems EVERY outdoor group has their persnickety purist debates. To be a "real" 14er, there has to be 300' between each peak. There are apparently about 5 or so 14ers that aren't really 14ers due to this rule. OK..fair enough.
The other "rule" is that to really summit a peak, you must gain at least 3000' from the start of your climb to the summit. Thankfully Mark is not a purist and we simply started at the trailhead parking lot with 2500' +/- gain! One gentleman that day actually started about half a mile lower so he can be pure and hike the extra 500' gain. :)
Glad I have NO desire to do all the 14ers! I just simply enjoyed the view, the hike and celebrating a wonderful achievement with a friend I've spent many miles hiking and skiing with.
