Definitely had a FANTASTIC time in the White Mountains all week. Did get rained on a few nights and only sprinkled on one day while we were walking. Luckily it was our very short mileage day from Garfield to 13 Falls so we were not wet at all.

Anyone who canceled a trip in the Whites this week missed out! Some good and bad moments, like watching a kid Bouldering on Franconia Ridge Sunday Afternoon and falling backwards about 25' and smashing his head open on a rock. I'll save that for a different thread though.

We did the other half of the Pemi Loop this year, mostly 7-8 mile days being all the wifes knees can handle right now it was long and slow but plenty of time for pictures. Started off at Lincoln Woods Parking lot and cut left onto the Osseo Trail up Mt. Flume, Mt. Liberty to Liberty Springs tentsite for 2 nights (first night we got DUMPED on by rain) Spent sunday drying out, myself and Walker Skinny Ranger took off up to Franconia Ridge, to see the guy fall I guess, call 911 for him, and return for lunch.

Monday we left Liberty Spring early and headed over Franconia Ridge to Garfield Ridge Campsite. Cuppa Joe and Matt, caretakers respectively placed were FANTASTIC!!!! Definitely windy and cold on the ridge when wew finally went over as a group...wind chill had to be down in the upper 30's and it went to 80 when the sun was out.....yea that's the Whites.

Left Garfield with some excellent Trail info from Matt the caretaker, who broke something of mine..but I didn't hold it against him...accidents happen. Besides, the sunrise was worth it! Everyone that knows the bench at Garfield Ridge Campsite will agree. Hiked down Franconia Brook Trail, which I found out is unmaintained and a user only trail, which I found Fantastic!

13 Falls was great as always, no bears...lucky I guess...kinda wanted to see one this year and we hiked out the 8.2 miles down the rest of Franconia Brook Trail on Wednesday

See my Gallery for some of the Highlight pics, my picassa album as some short videos and LOTS of great pics!!!

Too funny. We did pretty much the same thing in reverse and went up Twin Brooks instead of Franconia Brook. We ended Wednesday around 3:30 at Lincoln Woods visitor center.

He had a really good time actually...kids parents drive him nuts and he's a little depressed I think....that's why I take him to the woods...to show him the freedom he can have once he's old enough...to escape when he needs to. He's grasping the concept very well... and learning a lot.

Were they still stripping and repairing the parking lot? New reason #1 not to come out of the woods...the smell of hot pavement patch is horrible.

Yes, they just finished patching the day lot and were ready to patch the overnight lot... got out just in time.

Ya we walked out on Wednesday about 11:45 or so....course we had the easy flat Franconia Brook out to the parking lot. Just a great hike all around. Thinking about going back, but I think I'll be in western MA in the Berks for my solo August hike.
