I've got some vacation time to burn between August 15 and September 8th or so. Would like to do a 100-125 mile trail and seems like the Foothills Trail in NC/SC would fit the bill. Any expert advice on availability of water/annoyance level of bugs that time of year? Thanks, Joel

I recently asked this Q over on Hammockforums.net. Great hike, good reviews (go check it out). All seemed to agree that August was too hot. I would tend to agree unless you like the heat. Water in that area should be better than in years pasts due to more rain this year (but not alot). As for the bugs...I dont know. My in-laws live near there and I might sneak in a quick one nighter next time I visit them in...April?? We will see.

It's definetly a winter trail. Not much to see in the summer. From Oconee to Canebrake water is abundant but after canebrake it thins out a bit.

Not that it will have any bearing on the end of next month, but it has been very mild in upstate SC this summer.
