Has anyone hiked this section NOBO in the last week or so, and if so, could you give me a water report especially between Tray Gap at USFS 79 on through to Steeltrap, Addis, and Sassafras Gaps before Kelly Knob. Flow rate/reliability would be cool if you can, Thanks.


I have already called Neel Gap and checked out the GATC and Mtn. Xings. websites and they are over a month outdated. Mtn. Xings. said they've had rain, but not enough to replenish. There is no water at Bull Gap and other places in that stretch to Hog Pen Gap.

Definitely interested in this info. Hiking from Hogpen to Dicks Creek over Labor Day.

That is very surprising.

FWIW, Addis is a very reliable source and may be the most northern source in this section.

I was out there this past Saturday, from Unicoi to Tray Gap. Water along the trail in both places was running slow, but running. Met a hiker who said the water at Tray Mountain Shelter was the same.

There is water at Bull Gap, you have to walk 200 yds down the creek and you will see another creek off to the left with good flow. Checked hog Pen today. Flowing good just past the first camp site.

I hiked Unicoi to US 64 from Aug 2-Aug 5. I had no trouble finding water at the established sources. Some were running slow, but were there.

Not doing bad Cool.

Anyone GPS those water sources? I'm a nerd. :-D
