would an aluminum *ahem* pepsi *ahem* bottle work for this? I mean come on, who wants to try to acquire a beer bottle at 14?

With some modification.

The Pepsi aluminum bottles have a more concave bottom than the Bud bottles, which are nearly flat bottomed.

By all means new pepsi bottles will work.:D

The design seems to be a good one. If I had the time I'd give it a go. I think it would be worth the time and 3 bottles. I can see how it would start to vapourize in 30 seconds and would not be affected by a pot of cold water being placed on it. The instructions are well written and the photos are really helpful in the build process. I give it 2 thumbs up:banana

The "Venom" energy drink bottle works as well as the Bud bottle and I'm pretty sure it's legal for 14 year-olds to drink.

I was embarassed, in stores, looking at Heiniken "keg" cans, looking at how many ounces, checking out the shape of the bottom and squeezing the aluminum a little.

I see I am not alone.

I like that these stoves are sturdy, but what is the time to get 2 cups 50-degree Farenheit water to 212-degrees Farenheit?

I really like the look of the stove in the opening post. Just need the time and patience to make one.

Time is important because I should not be around sharp metal or tools immediately following the emptying of 3 alum beer bottles and one Heinie can.

Skids, any opinion on that design?

It looks heavy and easy to tip over. The workmanship looks wonderful though. Quality job.

A dremel does a nice job, see if you can borrow one.

Hi David, the plans for the stove calls for 3 bottles. :(

Construction Section
This stove is built from (3) empty aluminum beer bottles (be sure to dispose of contents responsibly...) No glue or epoxy No tape No flux capacitors...

I posted a last year that Mountain Dew now uses a very deco thick aluminum bottle that is exactly like the bud bottles, that being said my best stove was made from two Red Bulls.

Well, I was too impatient to wait for a pipe cutter so its kinda sloppy but burns hotter with 70 than my others did with 90 now just waiting for another one to fall out of the sky.

That's the one I made from the Venom bottles. Actually, I made two. The first time I cut the bottom and top the same heights and didn't factor in the convexity of the bottle bottom. The second time I cut the top just a little shorter and it worked great.
The guy at the ACE hardware store thought I was nuts buying fiberglass rope in the summer. It takes about a foot of the stuff.

Or, perhaps YOU could see if any, ahem, local Florida grocery stores carry it: I don't plan on getting to Florida any time soon to check for you.

These are THE STRONGEST I have found out there. I haven't measured the thickness, but these are way over-built for a disposable can/bottle.

David@whiteblaze,

I found mention here in the forum of a "cat stove" made with a Snow's clams can. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBCAvQn6vHM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBCAvQn6vHM)

Basically, all you need is a paperpunch, pop bottle cap and vitamin water cap to measure, a fine-point marking pen and an empty can of Snow's clams.

Being able to make a "cat stove" is neat. I like it.

I had no embarrassment buying the Snow's can in the store.

..and, by the way, I sent for the Gossamer Gear Caldera GVP "Foster's" can Stove system.

The UST WetFire Tinder does not stink, nor smudge the pot. As soon as I can pick up the wick and glue I will wrap the "Foster's" pot.

No videos, Wise Old Owl.

:o Awwww Shucks!!!!

I'm still making them:) I went to the store this morning and bought 4 dozen mountain dew bottles to be used for the BudLyte Super Stove. I just might have to rename the stove when I use the dew bottles, any ideas on a name????

I have a new stove kit coming out soon. The stove is a modified StarLyte super tuned to burn inside a conical windscreen (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=22463&highlight=cone+windscreen)that fits the allusive kmart grease pot. The kit will include the grease pot.

It just so happened that we stopped at a sunoco for gas ani thought: well, I might as well start my search here... Went into the aplus store and voilá all 4 types of venom bottles staring at me (for those who don't know, there's an eye on the label) so, now the only thing to do is try to restrain myself from spending too much money on these things.

Voila! That "instructables" stove is cheap, easy, and efficient. Have fun.

Monday, I'll have some on Monday I've been doing tests with it in 50 degree outside temps with a slight breeze and I'm getting consistant 2 cup boils with 1/2 oz denatured alchy. The set up only weighs 5 oz. Stove, windscreen and pot. I think that's resonable.
