Now that the NOBO crowd is mostly north of Manchester, I took the morning off to hike from Danby-Landgrove Rd south to Baker Peak.

On the way I got to inspect the rebuilt Lost Pond Shelter. It is constructed in a first class manner. Really nice to see a shelter before some hikers decide to "leave their mark".

Baker Peak has to be one of the top ten views on the AT. Not sure why it is a bit of a secret. On a clear day the mountains you can identify from the summit are almost endless.

I think it was Baltimore Jack that also mentioned a great campsite just north of the summit. Next trip I plan to take in a sunset and sunrise from there.

The Vermont mud is actually quite manageable after a week of sunshine. September is a great time to hike!!!

I was going by when they were tacking the roof on. Shelter is in a great location with the roaring creek just down below. I love the old school construction.

They did a great job. I am still trying to figure out how they got the materials to the shelter site. The trail is 3 miles from the road southbound.
