View Full Version : NH Trail conditions
Does anyone know what the trail conditions and weather have been like in New Hampshire lately? I'm headed to do a section from Franconia Notch to Pinkham Notch this coming week.
Don't know about NH but nearby Vermont has had more than a week of sunshine. Forecast looks pretty good for the next week too. Starting to get pretty cool in the evenings...like low to mid 40's. Probably cooler on the mountain ridges.
The mud is much improved!!!

Perfect hiking weather! Conditions on the Garfield Trail Thursday could not have been better. The mud is gone, the BAI (bug aggravation index) is close to zero. Somewhat hazy (with morning fog) but the view from Mt. Garfield was good.
The long range forecast out of the Fairbanks Museum in St. Johnsbury (http://www.eotsweb.org/forecasts.php) is for more of the same through at least Friday.
The recreational forecast for the next couple of days:
Mountain Forecast:
Today: Mostly sunny. Summits in clear.
Tonight: Partial low clouds late, extreme southern Greens. Otherwise clear.
Monday: Partial high, thin clouds Tacs/Berks/s'n Greens. Mostly sunny otherwise.

A quarter inch of ice formed at the top of Mt. Washington this morning. Story and neat pictures at this link:

Nice weather link, rlharris.
Just got back from an incredible trip! Had great weather over the Franconia Ridge Trail and able to see for 100 miles. The hardest part of the trip was the pitch up Garfield and down it, and the trail up South Twin. Still a lot of mud especially on the Ethan Pond Trail, but otherwise in great shape.
This was my first trip to New England and I fell in love with everything about the area. I now plan on finding a job in NH and moving there. I even enjoyed the Massachusetts accent and people!
My son and I just got back from the Whites, too. And we had unbelievably good weather, considering all the rain that has fallen this year in the Northeast.
