I search the internet for "strange nuggets" of cool stuff to see. I was surprised how frank this is. I have had wonderful experiences in Co-ed Explorers and then married a woman who wants no part in camping. - Oops - well we love our differences (25 years) So from someone who rarely posts in the woman's forum..
Please watch the video and please critique Charlie, FYI - I have nothing to do with the video and wanted to share with my Friends, I hope that's fair.

I was hoping for thoughts here to discuss about the video - I was looking for input both good and bad. How do you feel about it, when seeing a video for 1st timers?

I thought it was good however... if a girly-girl-spa-loving-lady hates camping she's going to make it a really annoying trip from mr-les-stroud-wanna-be-camper-guy. I had to agree with Charlie... girls that are afraid to break a nail or whine about skitter bites give girls like me a bad name.

A little vague on actual info. For instance, might have been good to expand a little more on the "homework" part - if its about survival would be good to know what those tips are, or in the least, provide the resources to find out about them.

I am sure that this is a joke but thats not what I am looking for here.(I didn't get it Capt. Sorry)
It would be nice to have a Utube that covers the basics for women and with keeping it lite and informative cover some of the other things that new folk run into. Boots, foot care, mosquito's, how to S**T in the woods etc, without the gaffs. Frequently women come with me on trips and sometimes its a success as with the 17year old exchange student from Germany this year and other times its a disaster - I won't say who. I would hold off the survival part, vs going out and just knowing what to do for common situations. Example - knowing to use a sleeping pad on cold ground knowing a bag isn't going to cut it.
My thoughts are that the first time I went Skiing I watched two DVD's before hitting the slope and it made all the difference in the world.

It would be nice and there are some of those types of things out there but you have to look by subject... and newbies wouldn't always know what to look for. Ray Jardine, Chris Townsend, Brian Beffort and the like have great books on the how-to subject. Brian even covered hygiene and such for women (I know because I wrote a small "My System" segment on that for Joy of Backpacking). An interesting book for couples to get is "Sex in a Tent" by Michelle Waitzman. It has lots of useful tips for someone taking their significant other into the wilds... and it's not all about sex... lol.
I've hiked with women who are better left to an adventure at a spa and others that are true outdoorswomen and not so high maintenance. One thing I have learned is to be specific when it comes to gear lists. On a paddling trip I told a friend to bring sandals for wading the creeks... she brought flipping flip flops from the flipping dollar store!! Egads.
