It was a bluebird blue clear day. The sun was shining and temperatures were in the mid 70’s. Humidity was low, a light breeze kept the bugs are bay.
“We hated it!!”
It was the annual backpack trip of MOA (Masochists of America.)
“We do all we can to make the trip as uncomfortable as possible. Brand-new steel-toed boots, car camping tents, cotton blue jeans two sizes too small, cast-iron hiking poles. All this guaranteed to make us as miserable as possible. We bring food we all hate, leave the water bottles at home, and drink straight from streams while munching iodine tablets. No sleeping pads, they may make us less uncomfortable! Winter bags in summer, summer bags in winter. We do it all for the cause!”
“The one thing was cannot control is the dratted weather! How could it be so.. soo…. NICE!” Here I was looking forward to a wonderful day of misery when Mother Nature throws THIS monkey wrench into the works! Why couldn’t it have been like last year? Last year we had mid 90’s temperatures at 90% humidity. One of our members was even lucky enough to have enjoyed a fatal heart attack!? (I am so jealous!)”
“Well, we have learned. Next year we will have an alternative day in case of sun!”
The MOA member was then asked why they were not happy because they were miserable because the weather was so nice that they were miserable.
He had no response to that question other than “Huh?!”
