I am currently gearing up for my 2010 Nobo and am having a hard time finding vegan options for easy/light meals. I prepared 5 months worth of food for my 2009 trip but ended up getting sick of the food I made really early-on. Does anyone know a good site for vegan freeze-dried dinners?...Looking for some variety from rice and beans

Did you try Mary Janes Organic Farms? She has freeze dried backpacker foods somewhere on her site and my guess is she may have vegan.

Have you tried Enertia Trail foods?

I havent eaten any of the meals yet but I have found that there are meals available from Backpackers Pantry, Natural High, AlpineAire, Cache Lake, Enertia foods, Packlite foods Expedition foods, Nitro Pak, and wilderness family naturals. I was just hoping that there was a site dedicated to vegetarian backpacking foods with vegan options. Maybe I'll design one in the future to fulfill the need. Thanks for the replies

I'm vegan as well and am in the super early stages of planning a thru hike for 2012. This has been a concern of mine too. Don't know how they taste yet but I'll second the mention of Mary Jane's (http://shopping.maryjanesfarm.org/s.nl/sc.2/category.13/.f#Budget Mix) as it looks like they have a lot of selection. Realizing though that a lot of these dishes are ones you could make yourself. You've got more control over the content (important to vegans) and less expensive to boot.

Did my husband and I and our other hiker friend, Dave--and his wife Rose--meet you and your BF at a shelter in CT a month or so ago?

BF = Hippie?? The nice kid from TX?

WOW! Yea I remember you guys. How is your section hiking going? I had to quit my hike due to a fractured hip and went back home with parent:(. But I am going to be doing the next thru-hike after Trail Days!! Cant wait to hike again!

I'm sorry to hear about your hip--major bummer--but glad you are headed back out next year. Good for you!

We had a great section hike, CT was beautiful.

Take good care, please say hello to Hippie--nice TV report on you guys, by the way :)

Here's one: http://www.veganstore.com/vegan-food-items.html

Here's another: http://www.healthy-eating.com/gluten_tempeh.html (read the Product Info)

Maybe more vegan backpacking, then?

Hope you get back up on the trail, soon.
