They may have been more worried about the gun going off accidentally in the dark cramped tent that being attacked by a bear. Maybe they loaded the gun only when they were out of the tent. Anyhow its tough to use a gun in a crowed tent.

Here in Canada, firearms must be unloaded and in a case after dusk... It's the law, hunting or not... They where simply following the law...
