With the trail planning for my 2010 thru hike getting boring I decided to try some trail meals. As I type I am enjoying my first alcohol cooked mac-n-cheese.
I used a kmart grease pot and a homemade stove which is a penny stove glued inside of a cat can stove . I used 3 oz of fuel SLX denatured alcohol.
I learned I need a little bigger pot than the grease pot for mac-n-cheese. it worked but a little more room would be nice.
Does anyone have a lead on a larger grease pot???

Just thought I would share.:D
there needs to be a smiley with mac-n-cheese face.

I have made it in a small pot but the .9 L is a much better size (IMHO). I use a soda can stove, and have a pot cozzy,(anti gravity type) I start with 1 oz fuel, and almost 2 cups of water, bring water to a boil, add noodles, cook until fuel runs out. Put lid on pot and put pot in the cozzy. wait 10 min. noddles will be done, SLOWLY add cheese mix. A box makes a pot full of Mac n cheese.
Still one of my most filling meals.

How much water do you boil the little noodles in? I always have to drain some. Hate that.

Now try it the freezer bag way - your pot will work perfectly and the ingredients will be a lot easier to mix up.
Make a pot cozy out ot Reflectix from Home Depot.
Cook any size meal -- just get a bigger bag for bigger meals. May also save some fuel - 3 oz per meal could add up (weight and cost wise) over a month or two on the trail.

Try this: put contents into pot with cold water, put enough fuel into stove to bring to rolling boil(stir once or twice during heating) and let the stove go out by itself. Cover stove and pot with something to act as a "cozy"/insulator. Eat from pot, wash dishes, sleeeep well:)

Just made up a batch following the directions in the first post. Worked great!!!

I used 2 cups water, added pasta after boil, let sit 10 min. in a cosy, added a little powdered milk and the cheese sauce mix in thirds.

I'm eating it now.

use the easy mac that comes in the styrofoam bowl (you add water and heat in micro).........vacuum pack contents of bowl with the cheese pack. boil 1 cup water and add noodles and powder (not the cheese powder...it is white powder that comes in noodle bowl--helps cooking it says). boil 2-3 minutes take off heat and add cheese...so quick and easy (hence easy mac)
