I recently moved to B'ham, AL for a new job and find myself desperately trying to find like minded folks who have a similar outdoor ethic and the desire for long hikes (as well as biking, climbing, paddling, adventure travel, etc.). I work most weekdays, but can take an occasional one off. However, most of my free time is on weekends. If you are interested, please message me here (DrAdventure) or ask for my phone/email. Thanks.

You might also try Meetup.com for a Birmingham hiking or backpacking group. Nashville has several.

The Vulcan Trails Association meets the third Wednesday night at the Hoover Library. There is a "cook out" in Nov. and Christmas Party in Dec. so the next meeting will be Jan. We hike, bike, paddle and take a couple of trips out west every year. You may want to google our web site.

i am hiking the pinhoti trail, albeit slowly. started in 2007. i would hike this trail a lot more if life werent so crazy lately, but when i get a chance to hike i tend to hit somewhere bigger and better than the pinhoti (although this trail has a lot to offer and i really enjoy it). not to mention it is a 3-3.5 hr drive for me. one constraint for me is also weather - i am only going to hike the pinhoti october thru february or so. i cant stand hot, bugs, or people when i hike. i'd like to take another trip soon, perhaps over mlk day? ive actually been meeting family to hike nobo through the trail, but they are reluctant to go many times due to their schedules (its hard to get 3 people with different schedules and families of their own together). we've done nobo from the southern terminus up to I-20. let me know next time you want to hike this trail and i will see if it works for me. someone to help shuttle cars would be nice.
