Sorry for not following the format Sgt. Rock and my experiences with the Brasslite solo alcohol stove are hardley scientific...in fact this weekend's hike was my first experience with an alcohol stove and to be truthful I am ecstatic, it actually boiled water with the prescribed amount of alcohol. I kinda like the idea of using a more environmentally friendly fuel admitting that in the past I have spilled white gas. I'm not necessarily voting for the Brasslite model since I have never used the coke/pepsi-can models but the stove Brasslite sells is in its own way a small piece of art. The most important reason for using this stove/fuel combo has got to be the lack of noise, and this I say compared to my MSR or my old Optimus 99R...The simplicity of absolutely no collection of parts and repair kits is also a major advantage...so I am sold on alcohol stoves and think the brass model should last a lifetime-in reality it wont though, I will step on it or loose it (already lost the simmer ring), and def. would buy again.

I sent off for the Brasslite Duo stove this past weekend. I was considering a Trangia, but went with Brasslite for the weight savings. Still may purchase a Trangia Westwind in the future as a backup stove. Heck, I may try to make my own soda can stove. In any case, I'm sold on the idea of using alcohol as the fuel source. It is funny though when you go to an outfitter store and you ask them if they have any alcohol stoves in stock. After a hesitant "none in stock" answer, I usually get shown the lastest and greatest in stove technology which usually turns out to be the Whisperlite. I wonder why stores don't carry alcohol stoves? Rock on, pards!

They don't make any money off them I would guess.
