View Full Version : Old Loggers Path in PA
M&M and I completed the Old Logger Path in PA this weekend. What a nice trail. Several nice views. 27.1 mile trail that is located about 30 minutes north of Williamsport PA. The trail takes advantage of old logging roads and very old railroad grades. Most have not been used in so long that you feel like your walking on very well maintained trail. Lots of water and camping opportunities. The grade is mostly moderate and the trail can be done in one weekend or 2 if you want to take it easy.

We had a great time on this trail as well. The views from Sharp Point and Sprout Vistas were great and the camping at Pleasent Stream is just about perfect. Just gotta be careful on that rock bridge. I tweaked my ankle pretty hard coming over it which laid us up for an extra day...not that I was complaining. Just meant that we had to spend a day relaxing by the stream. :D
Glad you had a good time. We're looking forward to getting out there again as soon as spring rolls around.

Does it connect with the Black Forest Trail or any others in Northern PA?
Does it connect with the Black Forest Trail or any others in Northern PA?
Not with the section of the PA Wilds where the Black Forest and Mid State trails are, at least not without a good bit of paved road walking.
(As an aside: I've actually been trying to work out a "PA Wilds Traverse" on existing paths, and I've gotten in my mind from the Allegheny River north of Tidioute over to Blossburg (actually right at the US 15 exit), but haven't found a good way to get from there to Rock Run/OLP territory. Here's how I was thinking of getting through the worst gap: http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=790858&Number=1183838#Post1183838 and with things learned since I could improve on this a little bit.)
One could potentially get over to the Loyalsock following other State Forest trails and a few forestry roads with little exposure to Route 87, but you'd have to be comfortable with map reading to do it. Hopefully jmitchell will see this and offer some more concrete suggestions.

No it is a solitary loop trail with an old road down the middle (almost the middle) where you could make 2 loops out of it with roadwalks.
