View Full Version : WTB - Ultralight backpack
Looking for an ultralight backpack, preferably under 23oz and in the size "small". I know there probably aren't a ton out there, but Gossamer Gear has sold out of the packs that I was looking at!
Thanks,
- Greg
When he comes back in december, look into a ZPack.

I'm been using an REI Flash UL. It cost me $25 brand new. I've hiked over 500 miles with mine without any problems including Hot Spring - Springer in mid-March.
The weight is a little more than either gg or zpacks but it is also more durable than either one. After trimming everything down, it weight 6 oz. A few ounces more but less problems dealing with ripping packs. Also it feels comfortable. I don't even notice it on my back.

wow - you hiked from hot springs to springer with that? that's great. i read it is only 1100 cu in... what did your gear list look like?
I've heard of zzpacks and those are definitely intriguing. I'll keep an eye on them when he comes back. until then, keeping my eye on other stuff ;)

The REI Flash UL is 1050 cu/in but has enough room to thru-hike the AT without any problems. During my hike, I was snow on and everything else.
This is the Ultra light backpacking thread. If you throw in a bunch of non-sense extras then of course your going to need a larger pack. You just have to think about what your doing.

The golite jam and pinnacle have always been winners from what I hear. Don't own one myself but to get a internal frame and a pack that weighs less than 2 lbs. is preety good. I'm thinking of buying the pinnacle myself. Good luck.

Golite Jam2, ULA Ohm, GG Miniposa, all good packs.
I guess I should clarify that I am pretty familiar with the pack options out there (not all that familar, but I've done a good amount of research), but many of the packs in my size have been sold out, so I was wondering if anyone had any packs that are in my size that may be used. I have a Gossamer Gear Mariposa and love it! But as a just in case, I would like to have a back up pack for my thru. If anyone knows of a pack like this or maybe smaller that is in the size small (I am 5'4" 120lbs), I may be willing to take it off your hands :)
I appreciate your comments and help!!

Since you have a smaller frame did you try to look at womens packs?

I'd definitely consider it, but the packs I have looked at aren't really women's or men's.
Bidwell,
The Gossamer Gear Murmur pack you inquired about on another thread is a great little pack, but it has a max weight limit of 20 lbs. My gear, food, & water weighs ~12 lbs for a nice weather, weekend trip, down to mid 20s.
It is not for toting mainstream commercial line gear.
You will probably learn what I did is that one pack, bag, shelter, etc... is not enough for any / all conditions or trips.

Thanks for the help. I guess for reference, I do infact plan on thru-hiking ultralight, with my gear, minus food and water, being about 6 to 8 lbs. I will not be toting your typical gear. I've done the research, tested the gear, and defintely willing to give up some comfort for weight. I've done many hikes with the GG Mariposa, and honestly, it's a tad big for what I need (hence why I am looking for something under 23oz). The murmur looks like something I may be interested in, but they are out of stock. I posted here to see if anyone had some packs for sale that fits my description. Thanks! :)

The hunt for the Murmer begins! I still can't stop thinking about that GoLite Ion though. If I find out anything about the Murmer I will let you know bidwell.

Hello,
I have an Osprey Exos 58 size small for sale if you are interested. I'm asking $150 for it. I used it for only 3 days! PLENTY of room for all thru-hiking essentials.
Here is the REI link about it:

I have a six moons designs traveller pack
http://www.sixmoondesigns.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=59
With the pocket addon in L 34 inch padding on the back and 33-44 inch waist but the shoulder straps are adjustable and move up and down quite a bit.
I paid over $200 and never used it outside my gear room in testing. $150 takes it if you are interested. It is super light and the sleeping pad forms the framesheet. I'll even toss in a z-lite.
