I have a Pur Hiker filter and have noticed white spots forming on the inside of the tubing. I always run the water/bleach combo through it before long-term storage and change the filter when needed. I have never gotten sick or anything. Is it common for those spots to show up on the inside of the tubes? Has anyone else had this experience? Should I be concerned? Thanks for any feedback.

That is most likely minerals such as calcium that were disolved in the last water you ran through the device. I have hard water at home and that also happens to mine. Run some distilled water through and it should rinse out

I agree with Blue Jay. I doubt the spots have any significance.

However, it is pretty easy to simply replace the offensive tubing. Hardware stores carry this stuff.

hello there.. I thru hiked in `03 and yes, spots DO show up on/in the plastic tubing. its little fungus colonies from the wet and the dark.
you can clean them out of the tube like cleaning a rifle barrel with a paper/cotton swab on a string or straightened out clothes hanger.
or you cd leave them there, they wont hurt you.(or soak the tubing in bleach )
