Any one know what the level of snowpack is on the AT between Winding Stair Gap and the NOC?
Temperature-wise, should I subtract 10 degrees from the Bryson City temperature to get an idea what the temps are like on the Trail in this stretch?

I was on Wayah and the snow is between 8-12 inches deep, with drifts in places as high as 2 feet. That was Friday. The temp was also about 10F below what the temp was in Franklin. Not much warming since then and I'd say it hasn't changed much since Friday.
I couln't find any reports for this area but this mornings posted weather conditions in the Smokies above 5000 feet had a snow pack of 15-20 inches with low temps below 0 and highs in the single digits.

I was at Windingstair yesterday ice climbing. Went for a 2 mi hike SOBO afterward. About 2 inches of dry powder snow on the trail. Easy hiking but cold, it only got up to about 17 deg. Enjoy and stay warm.

I guess if you go without a report and get hypothermia, we will know who to blame....
a real hiker don't need no trip report. a real hiker prepares for a winter hike with the proper clothing and equipment.

I think telling people not to "check ahead" is a dangerous proposition. Don't you think...

Not any more. May come early for a day hike.
Bulldawg was up there a few days back with Mrs. Bulldawg. He sent me a few pics on ye olde BlackBerry. Lots o' snow. Not sure how long it'll last on the ground up there though, high on Friday is gonna be around 50 or so. :D
