How much does it all weigh outside of your pack?

How does that make you feel?

My total pack weight should be about the same, maybe a little more, until I add food and water.

When I put all of my Breathairian Gear into my 100 litre pack
it weighs about 120 grams, but it weighs nothing.

My breathairian pack weighs nothing, empty or full.

JAK

Do Breathairian Hikers need a larger pack for higher elevations?
I must admit I am rather new to the Breathairian Hiker thing.

My empty pack weighs 8.4 pounds and there is plenty of fresh air in there to breath. :-)

You must have a pretty big pack. When mine is full of ultralight stuff it only weighs about 22 lbs. The rest of my ultralight stuff does fill up the closet, though. I bet all together I have 100 lbs of ultralight crap.

Wait, maybe I need to fill up all of my ultralight packs with all my ultralight stuff and see what they weigh combined....

Yes,
But if we were hiking together and you broke both of your legs, I could move my gear to one side and put you in my pack and carry you out for medical assistance.
How ya like me now?
:-)

Very good.
I would have to break from my breathairianism under such circumstances.

my helium balloon collection weighs less than nothing.

For the UL folks. How do you get all of your UL stuff into your pack if your pack is also part of your UL stuff? Wouldn't it all like disapear into inner UL hypospace or something?

Maybe that could be a new way to hike?

If you jumped in yourself at Springer, would you instantly reappear at Katahdin?

There's no law that says it has to be good humor (or original). :D

All of my gear could be classified as Super sub-ultralight. Each piece of gear (and the pack itself) is filled with either helium or hydrogen. Thus, my pack actually floats and weighs nothing as it hovers above the scale.

I would have thought that UL gear in an UL pack would cancel out the MASS of each.

JAK
03-11-2010, 10:27
That would only be if half your gear was purchased from Anti-Gravity Gear.

Warning:
Do NOT by anything from Anti-Matter Gear and mix it with your regular gear.
Anti-Matter Gear is not the same as Anti-Gravity Gear. Very dangerous.

Here is what my UL pack weights: 6 pounds, 3 ounces.

I got a scale that weighs down to the fraction of an .oz and weighed each item individually.

Hammock: 3.6
Stove: 1.4
Food: 0.9
Water: 3.9
Rain gear: 2.1
Misc other: 2.2

I added up the weight all the contents then weighed the pack and subtracted the weight of the contents and full my UL pack weighs 6.4 pounds.

So it is NOT true. My UL pack doess NOT weigh the same empty as it does full. it weighs one ounce more!

You should hike on the moon. Your 42 lb pack would weigh 7 lbs.

Does that count the gear mass necessary to get you there and back? I remember that they left some of it up there in a hiker box.

Just askin'. ;)

Donate all of your "ultralight crap" to Goodwill. Then go back home and triage all the rest of the stuff and donate the "could be's" to Goodwill. Then go back home again and sort through whatever is left and sort the "necessities" from the "wants." Donate the "wants" to Goodwill. It's a great spritual discipline.

I just bagged all of my gear and packed it up, pack weight without food and water is 55 pounds.
I am now in the process of going through the gear again and removing all the luxury items I bought.
Should be able to knock off 10 to 15 easy.

Dude be careful with Hydrogen

The Nazis were the first to try large scale experiments with ultralight hydrogen-based gear. Haven't you ever heard of the Hindenberg?

55 lbs. seems too heavy. How about a gear list?
