US 76 / Dicks Creek Gap / Hiawassee then 3.5 miles west.....

From what I can tell the BBPHH is only open mid February - May 1 ish. I was planning on coming through on May 23rd and was hoping to mail a resupply to pick up that day, and what the heck stay the night. Does anyone know much about this hostel? I have tried to call but no answer. I plan on calling back, but just figured I'd post too.

Thanks

If the Blueberry Patch doesn't work out for you, consider the Hiawasee Inn which Ron Haven now owns. Check out this thread:

Im not sure that I want to try to go out of my way 20 + miles (round-trip). My wife will be meeting me on day 7 at NOC and I will resupply then. I was looking for a place to split it up and BBPHH would be great. If I couldn't get a ride the 3.5 miles (one way) would not be too bad.
Is there anything else that is close to the trail that I could mail a maildrop to between Neels Gap and NOC. I don't have to have a shower or anything, just a maildrop.

You know you don't have to walk? Hiawassee Inn is running shuttles.

another option that comes to mind is to cache some food at Blue Mountain Shelter. I think they have cables and it's only about 1.5 miles from Unicoi Gap. I've never actually heard of anyone doing that, but it might be worthwhile.

As far as I know the Poteets live at the hostel year round so even if it's not open they might accept a package. I live in Hiawassee now, but that doesn't help you much as far as the BP hostel goes.

That would be cool if they would accept the package and they could just leave it outside and I could come by and pick it up.
I tried to call them again and no answer. Ill try one more time tonight then try again tomorrow.

Thanks everyone.

Thanks everyone.Stick,
I run a free shuttle from Hiawassee Inn that leaves 8:30am going to Unicoi by 9:00 and Dick Gap by 9:30 7 days a week.

Aw - you went and made me get all sentimental. Meeting Gary and Lennie was one of the high points of my Ga. hike in 2006. Wonderful people.
