for a camp job this summer i may need Wilderness First Aid. i have first aid, cpr and osha for the work place. in wilderness medical training, what are the different levels? where can i get training in the Philly area? what training do some of yous have?
PS this is a camp for the mentally and pyhsically challenged. if that makes a difference.
You might get by with a advanced first aid-first responde (http://www.rcgozo.org/gen/courses/advancedfirst.html)r certificate.
40 hr course, Wilderness first aid is 70 hrs.

You usually have three levels of training when it comes to wilderness medical.
They have Wilderness First Aid, First Responder, and WEMT.
The only problem is, the people who offer courses like that are few and far between.
Since you only need wilderness first aid, it's probably going to be some nonsense two day crash course anyways, so I wouldn't stress on it too bad. You already know first aid, so it's just about earning the paper that say's you can do it in an improvised manner.

Seems to offer a course in June for $200.00 if that's timely enough for you.

I know !
Just for a summary of what the course entails. :D
I took a WFA course taught by NOLS.
Here's a schedule of their various medically related wilderness courses:

Italy is a little far, but if they have classes in Aruba i would consider that :D

I dunno, heard the female first aid instructors on Malta wore bikini tops and thongs to keep the class awake. Might make you a good vacation :D
Probably varies but some states require a person in a "trip leader" position to have the advanced first aid certificate.

The NH chapter of the AMC provides WFA to its leaders through SOLO (Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities) (http://www.soloschools.com/) located in North Conway NH. SOLO is one of the premier WFA schools in the world and also has a permanent school set up at NOC (Nantahala Outdoor Center) in NC. They have courses from WFA through WEMT.
They are providing a course in May at Boiling Springs, PA, for the ATC but I don't know if that's open to the general public, just ATC staff, or any ATC members. Another is being held in Canadensis a month later. They hold courses around the country for various groups but I didn't see any in Philly.

The SOLO school is definitely legit.
Now, I just want to make sure.. are you positive that your job only requires a WFA certificate? I contacted my friend who's a Psych Grad that does the job you're attempting to get. She said she was trained to the first responder level.
Either way, if you're into the skills, I'd look into at least first responder. WFA is not very extensive.
