One of the better ones that I have read. Mountain Slayer also includes worthwhile hiker tips.

Gives lots of additional info throughout the book to help potential thru-hikers with information he learned. He was careful especially with his physical preparation by getting out and doing plenty of pre-trip hiking. Also he made sure his total starting weight was low, as he felt this would increase his chances for success. Overall I felt it was a good read.

This will be the follow up to AWOL on the AT. I gotta start looking for something after this one. Ideas? (Kinda about the same as these.)

I've read all these except Walkin' On The Happy Side Of Misery. Good reads. But if you want something to help you prepare for a thru, I'd recommend this, keeping in mind I have NOT thru'd yet - How to Hike the A.T. : The Nitty-Gritty Details of a Long-Distance Trek by Michelle Ray. It is very detailed.

Walkin' On The Happy Side Of Misery by Tate (aka Model-T).

White Blaze Fever was my favorite before reading this one. It also helps that I know Model T. White Blaze Fever is a no BS, this is what I did on this day 100 times book and it's pretty good. Model T's book is hilarious because of his multiple personalities.

Ill have to pick up Walkin' On The Happy Side Of Misery sometime. This one has been eyeballing me, here and on Amazon.

From what I can tell Walking With Spring seems to be the classic hiking the AT book. For this reason I will have to read it too. (Plus there is one for $4.64 on Amazon! I like cheap books, who cares if they are used, sometimes that makes them better, I like other peoples notes scrawled in the book.)

I have ran across As Far As The Eye Can See but never really looked at it. Thanks tagg, Ill have to check it out too, and its only $3.49 on Amazon! (To bad the shipping is almost the same as the book. I have bought a book for $1 but paid $5 cause of shipping. Oh well).

I have How to Hike the A.T. : The Nitty-Gritty Details of a Long-Distance Trek and it is quite good. It is filled with great info fro someone preparing for a hike. A thru or a section. It is a great compliment to a good guide book (for me that is the Thru-Hikers Compainion book. I have the Data Book and the Guide book for the section that I have been in, but they immediately turned me off because they are N to S and I was headed S to N. That was just a turn off for me. I like that the Thru-Hiker Companion is S to N and for that reason I use it.)

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I really liked Whiteblaze Fever and As Far As The Eye Can See. Both great books. I also liked Hiking Through by Paul V. Stutzman.
