Interested in experienced people's opinions of the US Army GI 'Patrol' sleeping bag.(Real GI surplus, not the Chinese knockoffs on eBay) Synthetic, mine is 2 lb 2 oz, not superlight but lightweight for a 30 bag, totally bombproof design, the Army rates it down to 30 degrees (used in conjunction with socks/polypro base layer) & Army performance stats are usually reliable.
I haven't tested mine anywhere near 30' but I like it. Packs small but surprisingly warm so far.
Lots of 'lightweight' hikers use the Patrol Bag & it's in a lot of people's bug-out-bag EOTWAWKI survival kits. I'm curious to see what the UL community thinks.
My 32-degree down-fill Western Mountaineering bag weighs 19 ounces. If I carried a 34-ounce bag, I'd expect it to be good to 10 degrees or so.
Your bag might be a great bag, but it's not ultralight. If you really want a lightweight bag, you should look at down.

I have yet to see one in a pack here. If it's Army issue, it's heavy.

The army I was in saved weight by not giving me a sleeping bag or tent....they gave me a poncho.

What else do you need if you're on permanent KP duty?

i have a EWC extreme cold weather bag but i would never carry it backpacking way too heavy. Its a mummy style. its rated at 0 degrees. A guy i use to work with said he used it in Germany where he was stationed slept in nothing but underwear. Thats how you use he says your body circulates heat thru it. He woke up covered in snow and was sweating and it was below 0 .
i know and have the bag he's speaking of. it works to 30 with some sort of baselayer. but i'm a warm sleeper. i keep it in my truck with my BOB.
when hiking i carry my down bag.
if i decide i want a quick overnight, i okay it with the wife, and then just use the gear in my truck, it's fun to just camp on a whim sometimes.
I used the patrol bag from Hot Springs all the way to Katadhin during my 99 thru-hike. I'd call 30 degrees a bit optimistic. I'd rate it at a comfortable 40. I slept in the 30's with it but wore extra layers.
However, considering I paid $32 for it, new from the base exchange, it was an incredible bargain. I still have it.

You can get 30 deg out of that bag, depending on how warm you sleep. I slept many nights in one of those and had the "system"(goretex bivy, green 30deg bag and black 10deg bag that you could snap together. Combine all for minus sumthin use) issued when I was in the Army.
Compared to the old 8lb "intermediate" bag it rocked. I thing the whole thing was ~8lbs with stuff sacks. Nothing in the military is "ultralight" except the paycheck.
I am down with down now tho.
