i have pacific dream. see my thread on selling used gear.
Just read a real page-turner on the PCT, called Skywalker--Highs and Lows on the Pacific Crest Trail. Now if you remember, he wrote the AT book from the point of a total rookie, and it was no exaggeration. Well, he may have improved A LITTLE, but still has to struggle like hell. His first book was ruthlessly self-deprecating and fun to read, and this one is even more so. You could even say it's as much about what NOT to do, than what to do. Yet it gives a vivid picture of life on the cutting edge on the PCT. And it's the most recent PCT narrative out.

You have to make a decision up front. If you buy Eric the Black's pricey ($200 range) all-purpose book, then you don't need to buy the data book by Gentle Ben Go, nor the Wilderness Press Maps. However, if you don't buy Eric the Black you will need to buy both the data book and the three volumes of maps. It's a tough call, as both have their bona-fides. Some found Eric the Black's Guide very cogent and easy to use, but just as many thought it was offensively priced. It's your call.
Almost everybody buys Yogi's PCT handbook, however. It is well done and deals head-on with every issue you can imagine.
