I'm going looking for Moses in Death Valley for the next few weeks. I'm leaving tomorrow AM and should be back sometime before the new year. Assuming the drive down goes alright and the park service doesn't put up any barriers, I should be hiking on Monday (Dec 13). I'm heading from Scotty's Castle on the north end of the valley and walking the length of it (rather most), passing Badwater on the way. Then, west across the Panamint Range via a cool looking route called Anvil Wash. Picking up a jeep road for the last push through the mountains over Mengel Pass and into Panamint Valley. North up the valley along a large dry lake, passing through Ballart, a ghost town, on my way to Panamint Springs, where I should be able to get a beer or two. Continuing north, I'll traverse the Darwin plateau and pick my way up Grapevine canyon to get to the Racetrack. More north, then some cross country hiking to get to the mouth of Bighorn gorge and some fun times with 100 ft. dry falls. This gets me through the Last Chance range and back into Death Valley proper. A few more miles and I'm back to my ride. Should be about 250 miles. Long waterless stretches (two 70 mile ones), few people. Cold, not hot.

I'll put up pics and a web page when I get back. Till then, play nice.

I did my first serious hiking out there and used to go back every year. Beautiful area. Have fun!
