I made this in the Allegheny nation forest this fall to the delight of my friends. Thought I would share. It Fed three Hungry People, can probably feed 4 normal people, but you can adjust the amounts. I used small backpacking stove (with the coalman butane/ propane mix) and an 10 Inch Collapsible Aluminum Fry pan that got the job done, but a larger pot might be nicer.

Ingredients/Prep

I Lb ground meat, Dehydrated (Or pouch of foil chicken if you don’t mind the weight)

Veggie Bag (which Includes)
1 Medium Onion chopped, Dehydrated
4 carrots cooked, peeled, sliced Dehydrated
2 Medium Potatoes cooked, diced- Dehydrated

3 Cups instant rice, Bagged (Salt optional)

1 Box Golden Curry Dry Mix Bar (found in Asian section at most grocers, It’s a little heavy, but makes a great sauce)

Packet of Olive Oil (or other oil or fat)

Instructions

At camp, get Veggies and meat rehydrating in their bag (about a 2-1 Water/Solid Ratio)Don’t worry about rehydrating too much, just get it started.
Boil 3 cups of water and add rice and a little oil. Cook 5 minutes, divide Rice into Individual Bowls
Add rest of oil to pot/pan. Brown Veggies quickly (optional really, if not just add on step 4)
Add 2.5 cups water and meat. Bring to a boil (this should rehydrate your food fully). Add curry chucks and simmer for about 5 minutes.
Serve Curry Beef Mixture over rice (this will warm up the rice if it’s been sitting to long also) and eat!
It it’s a little more than average to haul and prepare, but it was sure worth it.

Very interesting, I was thinking this afternoon about making some next week.

I use the same types of ingredients at home except for the beef, which is diced as 1"^3. Precooking them is a good idea since a hiker dosen't have too much heating capability on trail.

Its taste is really inviting and can be hot if adding extra "curry powder" in it to enhance the flavor. A few things I want to mention are, to keep an eye for the amount of water in the pan/pot, and to keep stirring. The cooked stuff can be spoiled pretty easily after a couple of days even in a refrigerator.

Yes, it's a little hard to bring it to the trail. Winter multi-day backpacking may be fine.

I got a box of that curry mix for Christmas last year. Great stuff. I also make a lot of curry on the trail. Equal parts rice and lentils, 2 to 3 volumes of water, meat and veggies (whatever you can get), oil for more calories, curry powder to taste. Bring to boil, set in pot cosy for 20 minutes.

Try adding a bit of cinnamon if you can.
