View Full Version : Croc Knockoffs Lighter & Durable?

Looking for camp shoes and I'm not terribly in love with Crocs but they seem to work for a lot of packers. I know the Payless/Target brands are a bit cheaper in price but from what I have gleamed from forums are that they are lighter than Crocs; saw somewhere that they were half the weight. 14oz for Crocs and 7oz for the knockoffs. That seems excessive. Anyone out there knows for sure?

Also, how durable are the knockoffs when compared to real Crocs? Seems Corcs are darn near indestructable.

Thanks

We use Nothinz......look like Crocs but lighter and pillowy soft. I can't hike in them - can feel every rock and stick on the trail. But we love them in camp for how comfy they are and how they let my feet dry and air out. We've used them for stream crossings, too, and they worked just fine.

My knockoffs are 4.5 oz apiece. They're called Dawggers (have a little dog printed on the rivet holding the strap on the back) and I got them at CVS. Had 'em for quite a while now, use them for slippers around the house too, no obvious wear.

I use a pair of flip flops that I made from 550 cord and an old foam pad. They weigh maybe an ounce, and I can also use them for a sit pad. I use them in college as well, as shower shoes.

I bought $5 imitation crocs. It's true that they're lighter than the real thing, but for hiking that's actually preferable. I perceive that they are less durable. I 've walked on sharp stones that damaged the soles, and I've left them in 100 degree sun for month straight and they shrank!

But, what the heck. At $5 per pair, I can buy a new set of camp shoes every year if needed, and it won't make even a dent in my gear budget.

Waldees. Before there were Crocs, there were Waldees. They are lighter for same size and just as durable and comfortable IMO.

Yeah, I think the knockoffs do weigh less. But if you wear comfortable trail shoes you don't even need camp shoes. Camp shoes are nice if your feet are going to get wet all day, though.

I got my "Dawgs" at Dollar General. I've had them 3 or 4 years and they are in fine shape. I think they were $7, so I would definately say I have got my money's worth out of them.
