Dust off your gear (get off the computer ) and get out on the trail!
:welcome
Just thought I would post this in the Event/Get together section and invite YOU to some hikes that the Allentown Hiking Club schedules. I have been a member (and lurker) on this site since May of last year, but have not posted much. I thought this may be beneficial to others so...

Here is the website with all scheduled hikes:
http://www.allentownhikingclub.org/db_list1.php?featuretype=event

I joined Allentown Hiking Club to help me condition for my 2012 Thru. As you will see, most of the Hikes are Day Hikes. Everyone and Anyone is welcome to attend all AHC hikes unless otherwise noted. Tje Allentown Hiking Club Members that I have interacted with have proven friendly and informative so far.

There are two Backpacking/Overnights that I will be leading....

The first is Saturday April 2 till Sunday April 3. Spring hike to get everyone out on the trail for the season. It is an easy 4 mile hike in from Rt 309 Summit to the Allentown Hiking Shelter. We will spend the night there and then Hike 4 miles back out on Sunday Morning. This is a leisurely hike and can include all ages and conditioning levels. It will give you a good 'run through' of your gear and a chance to interact with others that have similar interests. Rain or Shine. Total Hike Miles 8.2

The second hike is Saturday June 25 till Sunday June 26. This Summer hike is going to be more challenging. It will be from Reservoir Rd Parking area in Hamburg PA (just below Windsor Furnace Shelter) 17 miles to the Allentown Hiking Shelter. We will stop by the Beautiful Pulpit Rock and the Pinnacle! We will overnight at the Shelter then Hike out Sunday 4 miles to the vehicles at Rt 309. Please see details at the above Allentown Hiking Club website. Due to start and finish point logistics, we will actually be meeting at Rt 309 Summit and leaving some vehicle there then going to the start point. Rain or Shine. Total Hike Miles 21.3

It would be great if some local members (or non local) of White Blaze could join us for these two backpacking hikes. I hope to see you at these and/or any other scheduled hikes. Feel free to contact me with questions.

Nice idea. I used to belong to the AHC - Dues were really inexpensive like $10 or so. I may have to rejoin. I'll add these short hikes to my calendar.
Thanks

I can't say enough wonderful things about the Allentown Hiking Club! They welcome complete strangers to their group, offer them chocolate and good company, and always look out for each other. I was lucky enough to join them for several hikes in 2009/2010. A big shout out to Janet!

PA is the center of the hiking world.

Some people are slow to realize this fact, but the day will come when even the diehards will at last acknowledge it begrudgingly.

The SB trail into the Allentown shelter isn't bad compared to the trail north (really east) of Rte 309. I'm a member of the Club but have never been on any of their hikes. I don't like hiking with large groups.

A dicey weather report and it turned out to be beautiful both days! Thanks to WhiteBlazer's 'Crash' and 'hikerhobs' who joined the shake down backpacking hike this weekend. We had a total of 5 that overnighted and an additional 6 that utilized it as a day hike. Also there were two others that also were staying at Allentown Shelter in hammocks. With Crash that made a total of 3 hammocks (4 tents and zero in shelter). Another group of nice hikers to interact with. The nice view through the trees without the leaves and a warming campfire added to the enjoyment. Thanks again guys, a pleasure hiking with you.

Thanks One! I had a great time. Nice meeting & camping with you, Lexie, Jean, & Hiker Hobbs, and the two hammockers from Metuchen.
It was a relaxing trip, only slightly interrupted by me not finding my tarp (it was in my pack after-all. But I turned that mishap into a positive the next day for everyone.

Just reminding WB's of the overnight hike coming up June 25-26. It is less than 4 weeks away. I did a 'pre-hike' of it last weekend. There are two 'uphills' that can prove challenging with the rest of the hike less difficult with some beautiful views! Details are at the Allentown Hiking Club site...
