Okay you hammock hangers, if I ask way too many questions over the next month or so, it is your fault! I finally decided to to give this hammock stuff a go. Just completed purchase of a Warbonnet Blackbird.
No tarp yet, but I will use my 8x10 campmor one for now. I might save up for a a cuben one from Z-packs. :D
Should definitely check out hammockforums.net
It's the sister site of whiteblaze

My first hang; well kinda. Weather kinda snotty today, so I set BB up in an upstairs room. So, I was not able to actually take a nap in it. Very nice. Well made, very well sewn. I went with the webbing suspension. Decided to keep that part simple while I figure out the other stuff.
I hope to actually get it outside tomorrow and put the woods next to the house to some other use besides cow rib scratchers.
I also rigged up a new full length guy line for my Campmor 8 X 10 tarp, and I want to see how that will work until I can afford something lighter and less stretchy (or not depending on how well it works). Thankfully, I already am a tarp camper, so that helps as far as knots and guy line stuff goes.
If I have not mentioned it yet: I love the Prussik knot, it has always been one of my favorites! And I am seeing how useful a Marlin Spike hitch just might become.
Marlin spike is pretty popular over at hammockforums.net
+ 1 on learning to use the Marlin Spike. I like it for my straps not so much for my guy lines

+2 on the marlinspiike. I use a marlinspike on my tree straps and then use whoopies to fine tune the hammock. The whoopies weigh only a couple of oz and are worth it!
8x10 tarp is smallish to me, but if you are an experienced tarper (I was not) then you may find it just right.
hammockforums.net is the place to be for hammock discussions. I tend to do my hammock talk there and my hiking talk here.
I am envious of your WBBB. I hope to be ordering a 1.1oz double by next month.

There are plenty of sheltered areas to set up in the areas I usually camp and I have weathered a lot of stuff under this old tarp. I do plan to snag a larger one, probably a rectangular one so that it will be versatile for all kinds of camping, since I like to take a tarp when I car camp too, and when we go on rainy weekends, it is nice to have a tarp to cook, eat and socialize under. The WBBB is a very nice hammock. The quality is excellent.
I love that I now have a really comfy camp chair too! I will have to use a stick to beat my hiking partners off this setup.
Thank to the folks at Hammock Forum, I was able to get a really fast and nice first hang. That place is a gold mine of great information and tips.

Since we are neighbors shoot me a line I'm always hanging around somewhere (pun intended). Will be hanging both the 3rd and last weekends in april either in WV or Pa.
We use HH with JRB underquilts and hex tarp for one and a JRB tarp for the other.
