What are good men's non-cotton hiking briefs, and where can you order them online? Not boxer shorts.

I wore breifs for a short time (went to a kilt and sometimes running shorts which included a brief inside). My favorite breifs were the EMS CoolMax Briefs (www.ems.com/products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444176 7529&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302171601&fromTemplate=navigation%2Fsubcategory.jsp&bmUID=1105969000835). Got the grey ones.

I tried a silk-weight brief from Patagonia, but the waitband seam was right in the back and not covered. My pack's waitbelt pressed that annoying seam into my skin all day, so I threw them out in the next town.

Patagonia silk weight boxers are cut a bit differently than regular boxer shorts you may have tried before. They don't have the traditional single seam in the back, making them far more comfortable (wedgie proof). I like them alot, they keep things fairly dry, don't chafe, and are easy to launder and fast to dry. You may want to try a pair- it may change your outlook on boxers.

I too have looked for breifs that are non cotton. The above link will take you to a great pair of breifs - I have used them a few times and will not use anything else. I think they are a bit pricey, but a few handyman jobs and I've managed to amass a few pairs!

The stretch material makes these feel more like cotton and are unlike any other non cotton breifs I have found.

I concur with Dharma, go with one of the microfiber briefs. Here is a link (http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/campmor/iphrase.jsp?command=text&attr1=%22for+men%22&attr2=&v0=briefs&qt=1105971651&vid=vgu5XJjUlMA0x&i=CATENTRY_ID&qid=qYegyrnHFYh7l&s1=CATENTRY_ID%2F%2F1&s0=iphrase+relevance%2F%2F0&tq=1&q=25&as=1&qtid=qYegyrnHFYh7l&t=0&c0=i%3A1%3B770%3BCategories%2CDescription%2CName%3 Bbriefs%3B%3Abrief%3B1%2C1%3B%2B0&render=1&domains=CATENTRY_ID&text=%22for+men%22&w=on&x=38&y=7) to five models from Campmor. I use and like the Hind briefs. Make sure you get a pair that are colored.

I know, TMI.

I love Under Armor. Used them over here in the desert for a year and how found nothing better to regulate temperature. Only downfall is they seem retain stink even after thorough washing.

Haven't tried it, but I wonder if wearing a pair of lycra running shorts as underwear would work? I generally go with the river shorts with liners and forget the underwear, but had the lycra short idea to prevent my fat legs from chaffing. This wasn't a problem when I was thin and in shape, but now as a fat guy it's a consideration. Kind of hate to admit it here, but back in my running days I did prefer the fit and functionality of the tight lycra shorts.

I wear the briefs I mentioned above and a pair of lycra shorts - Wal-Mart has a good deal on lycra shorts by Athletic Works - $9 pair and they are in the underwear section. They come in white, black, and sometimes blue. I hate chafing!

The $5 duofold briefs in this link are good. I get no chafing even in summer.
