During my last hike north of Damascus I managed to make three new fire rings and burn them for a few hours. I thought an announcement would be appropriate so all the people praticing LNT know that there are three more places they can camp at an "established fire ring". I feel I may have eased the concious of multiple LNT hikers on into the future as these rings become more and more used.

That's outstanding news and has given me an idea. I'm going to start doing this IOT make the trail more camping friendly.

BTW, not sure why you put this in the humor forum

Doc Mike, your hard work and sacrifice is truly appreciated by those of us who really want to LNT. To take time from your hike just to help other people is so inspiring.

If you could post a time table for the next time you are planning to help the LNT community, I have several young Scouts who need to practice fire-making skills and cutting fire wood.

Thanks so much Doc, I was getting so over coming out of the woods with a clean tent bottom. I missed the beautiful charcoal streaks and the smell of burnt garbage on my footprint.

You know the boy scout comment got me thinking that a good eagle scout project would be to pick a 20 mile section and attempt to establish a fire ring every mile. That way when your tired and a dedicated LNT folllower you will know that within a mile there should already be an established fire ring.

Awesome, I really appreciate your efforts. Now there will be so many more places for me to drop a deuce on the trail. No more need to dig cat holes for me or any one else. We can all poop in fire pits, and reduce the need to dig unsightly holes that cut roots and stuff. Poop burns well, and toilet paper makes excellent tinder. No need to even bury it, maybe just place a stick across it to keep the paper from blowing away.

Hikers who aren't afraid of the dark and don't need to build fires, won't be affected. Which I assume to be most of us, since fire making is a huge waste of time on a hike. And the dweebs who find some need to build a big fire (assuming it's to make up for something tiny in their pants, like buying a Corvette) will be happy with the extra aroma.

Thanks for your hard work, I will try my best to provide lots of tinder for peoples fires.

Go ahead and drop it in there; I always need another reason to build a fire ring -- I hate using old ones:D

Excellent idea! Plus, by burning a few trees down you create more flat ground to set up tents!

Much appreciation for you contribution to the woods.
