when hikers arrive at the feed, small lightweight strong casts are applied to their elboes makeing them not able to bend. then, they are seated at long tables accross from one another. they are unable to bend their elbos , so they cant feed themselves. some hikers begin feeding the hiker across from them. others do the same. soon , some hikers are dropping dead from not eating. we use these for the hog farm. when they are all fed to the hogs, whats left are the good hikers. this is the point at witch we searve dessert. on sunday morning, when the bacon exspolsions are searved, we make sure there are no eyeballs or lekki pole tips sticking out. each year we purify our ranks in this way. so, if you plan on attending, and your a selfless lover of others, you should be fine.

oh, and mary has qooties.

Traditionally Sue Grace and whomever is available to play with her has committed to entertain us with great music on Saturday evening. Some of you may remember Sue as a regular (2 x weekly) playing at the Doyle Hotel. She has occupied much of her time presently at the Perry County Farmer's Market as a vendor selling her crafts and blesses us with her tunes when she is there. I love Sue and Bucky too.

if duncannon was a hiker, it would be matthewski
if trail angel mary was a food, it would be all the cotton candy in the world with the kids attatched.
if pat and miss vicky was an island, it would have pinapples and coconuts and cherrys
if if peters mountain was an ice cream, it would be chocolate, and my weirdo spot would be the cherry on top.
if the sussquhana was a woman, she would be a humble yet powerful indian princess warrior in love with matthewski
if the ballfeild full of laughter and hikers were a candybar, it would be lemon chocolate marshmallo gooseberry supreem.
if rm 23 was heaven,..............it is.

Have to also work on the paper/plastic list. HOWEVER Billville each year tries to be more recycle aware. THEREFORE this year bring and use your own utensils, any cans used at the park will be put in a seperate disposal can.
Billville members please bring any of those sturdy plastic cups you get when you get a soda to go - let's recycle them wash and bring with you for hikers to use at park.

I caught a sale at Mutzabaughs. I got ketchup for the baked beans, 6 salad dressings, and 10 boxes of spaghetti. Also found some beans on my shelf that were presents from Can Do Will Do at Trail Days.

Was at the church feed in Caledonia State Park today and Ray and Sharleen gave me their extra charcoal.

What else do you need, and how much is the pig cost? I'll work on updating the list later. Avon business and Museum festival this weekend priorities now. Last year the pig cost almost $300 because the available pig guys charged for all the go-withs. Only their time was donated, not to diminish it. It takes all night long to do a pig! Once I know we have the money to pay for it I will see who is available.

Thanks Mary, but how much oil, butter, flour etc..,. I'll see what I can do on some of these items. I like the idea of beer battered french fries but I do think frying a bunch of stuff is a little over kill. Remember how tired you get doing all this even with 'some' help. Some details about the above list:
butter needed for many things like on the pancakes Saturday morning, for the garlic bread on Friday evening, for the roux to thicken the sausage gravy, for the amish friendship bread - so I'd say a total of 4 lbs will be needed.

My friend Stacey believes she can get the flour and sugar for me on July 1 which is good because I will need it ahead of time to make the amish friendship read.

6 italian loaves will be needed for the garlic bread on Friday evening. As well as one large jar of crushed garlic, 1 parsley flakes. and 1 oregano.

For the hot dogs 2 15 oz cans of chili without beans, 2 quart cans of sauerkraut, 1 #10 can of pickle spears.

For the green bean casserole 1 #10 can of french style green beans, 1 # 24oz can cream of mushroom soup, 3 cans of french fried onions.

For the baked corn I need a #10 can of corn and a #10 can of cream corn.

For the spaghetti sauce, I will need onion, green peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, asparagus, 4 - 28 oz cans tomatoes, 2 - 28 oz can plum tomatoes, 6 - 29 oz cans tomato puree, 6 - 12 oz cans tomato paste, bottle of red wine, fresh garlic gloves, parmesan cheese and various seasonings. All of these ingredients will be needed by July 4 because I prepare it ahead.

Need 3 additional containers of parmesan cheese and 2 crushed red pepper flakes for serving time.

4 loaves scrapple

3 bottles barbecue sauce for the bacon explosion.

Milk is needed for several things, so I need a case of canned milk.

I might even be able to con my youngest into picking some one up during the day And of course I'm good for rides back to the trail on Sunday.

No photos or story? Actually, I did a story on the Billville feed (http://www.hooptimeonline.com/courogen/pages/billfeed.html) a couple years ago. And have written about the Doyle (http://www.hooptimeonline.com/courogen/pages/doyle.html) and Duncannon (http://www.appalachiantrail.org/docs/atj/atj-may-june-2010.pdf) (scroll to page 7 on the link) a couple times. I just drove up yesterday to drop off cookies my daughters made. And since I was already in town, stopped at the Doyle to grab a burger and say hi to Pat and Vicky. Was also lucky enough to meet Miss Janet, who I had heard so much about but had not met.

Might also go back this evening to see the trailangels film they are showing, and Jester's PCT film.

SAMPLE LETTER
Dear Trail Partners:
It is my great pleasure to support the application of Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania to be
designated an Appalachian Trail Community. From the time I first learned of the AT
Community program, I have felt that Boiling Springs was a natural to be so designated.
The village of Boiling Springs and the surrounding municipality of South Middleton Township
have been great partners with our Club over the years. They have stood shoulder to shoulder
with us in our efforts to protect the precious green strip that we call the Appalachian Trail.
We've received support from the municipal leaders as well as several other local organizations.
Boiling Springs has the honor to be one of a small number of towns through which the Trail
passes directly. But it can equally be said that the AT is lucky to pass through the town of
Boiling Springs. AT hikers frequently tell us of the unexpected pleasure they experience
walking on the gravel path along Childrens Lake as kids feed the ducks and anglers try to catch a
big one. As a recent thru-hiker of the AT, I can tell you that Boiling Springs is well known for
its hospitality and friendliness to strangers who pass through town.
One of the best parts of hiking the entire AT was experiencing the wonderful trail towns along
the way. We at CVATC are lucky to have one of the best right here in our backyard!!
Sincerely yours,

birchy

RE: Trail Community Designation

Dear Trail Partners:

It is my great pleasure to support the application of Duncannon, Pennsylvania to be
designated an Appalachian Trail Community. From the time I first learned of the AT
Community program, I have felt that Duncannon was worthy and deserving of such a designation. The town of Duncannon and the surrounding area have been great partners and supporters of the Appalachian Trail and its various trail clubs. The Government and the people of Duncannon have made great effort to protect the precious green strip that we call the Appalachian Trail, and to provide trail users with a quality experience

Duncannon also has the honor of being one of a small number of towns through which the Trail passes directly. But it can equally be said that the AT is lucky to pass through the town of Duncannon, PA. AT hikers frequently report of the unexpected pleasure they experience walking Market Street in Duncannon. As a hiker and supporter of the AT, I can tell you that Duncannon is well known for its hospitality and friendliness to strangers who pass through this exceptional town. One of the best parts of hiking the AT is experiencing the wonderful trail towns along the way. It is my personal opinion that Duncannon and the Appalachian Trail share a common bond, that is, they both benefit from each other’s existence. It is therefore my opinion that Duncannon should be so designated as an “Appalachian Trail Community”.

Sincerely yours,

trailangelmary
