The Gadsden Flag was displayed as always today on Flag Day with 3 other historical flags at Heidelberg Heritage Society's Lerch Tavern in Wernersville built in 1797. It features a coiled rattlesnake on a yellow backround and the words "Don't tread on me."

The rattlesnake became an important symbol during the colonial period of U.S. history. To learn more, refer to Rattlesnake Flags and Early American Snake Symbolism (http://www.gadsden.info/snake.html).

Today, Timber Rattlesnake is considered to be a species of concern. Pennsylvania's State Forests may represent its best chance for survival as a viable species. Were we to lose it, it would be an even more shameful loss than the passenger pigeon.

I love that design. I think it would make a good tattoo.
