We recently returned from hiking MA & VT. While my husband Trail Bug was out hiking I went into Bennington to check on a place to stay. Using the AT Guide I first went to the Kirkside Motor Lodge. I talked to the owner (Billy) to get information on staying there. He quoted me a price of $84 for 2 and $15 for 3rd person. This was after him asking how old that person was. I told him 77. When I asked how much was state tax he stated that he was not allowed to tell me. He was very evasive in quoting prices and made me feel uncomfortable. When my husband came off the trail later that day he stopped by and Billy told him that 2 people was $79 and 3rd person was $11 and that state tax was, and quoted him the price. When my husband asked about prices he quoted me he became very aggitated and said that was not what he had told me and he as much called me a liar.

We ended up staying at the Knotty Pine Motel. The lady who owned the place was very friendly. Several of the motels told us that Kirkside had nice accommodations, but that Billy was very sexist and gave Bennington a bad name because of how he treated females. Just beware if you are female and plan to stay there. I checked reviews on Google and they seem to be 50/50 with all the bad ones talking about the owner.
