I haven't signed in for a while now, but decided to do so tonight just to offer a big thank you to a couple of businesses in Delaware Water Gap.

My most recent section from Lehigh Gap to Culvers Gap took me through the area, both during my shuttle, and on foot. In the process, I lost my "wallet" (plastic ziplock) with $300+ cash, debit card, credit card, Insurance card and license in it. This wasn't discovered until I went to pay for the shuttle in Lehigh Gap. To make a long story short, an honest customer and honest employee of the "Pie Shop", actually called the Village Farmer and Bakery in Delaware Water Gap, and the great management of the same shop kept it all safe, until I could hike through and retrieve it, thus saving my vacation and hike. A HUGE thank you to them.

A second thank you goes to Chuck, the owner of Edge of the Woods Outfitter (and my shuttle driver) in Delaware Water Gap. Not only did he offer GREAT service as expected, but he also tracked down my found "wallet", made arrangements for it to be held at the bakery along with a re-supply box, and even offered to loan me some cash for the first part of my hike. This wasn't necessary, but was greatly appreciated.

As Chuck said, I received a HUGE dose of trail magic (the real stuff, not the pre-arranged kind) :D before my hike even started, and it saved my week. Please give these great businesses your continued support, they are truly deserving of our patronage.

These folks, as well as the great hostel that the Church of the Mountain offers made Delaware Water Gap very special to me this past week. I just wanted to get these thank yous out, they were well deserved.

Yes, I did give the young lady at the Pie Shop a reward - she will determined how it is divided/used.

So happy to read that the people of DWG are honest. I hiked that section this past summer, also shuttled by Edge of the Woods. Nice people!

Hey, Lyle, thanks for such a positive, feel-good post. It made my evening. If I ever get to that section of the trail I will indeed patronize the businesses you mention.

I enjoyed reading the recent AT Journey's article about DWG. Sounds like they're living up to their name based on your experience Lyle. It'll be a few years before I section hike through there, but will definitely patronize the businesses mentioned by you and the mag.

I will be hiking through DWG in three weeks. I have already arranged a shuttle with Chuck, and had planned to stop at Village Farmer. I am glad to read this (and the AT Journeys articles). Thanks for sharing.

The trail can sometimes be quite boring, but the people are what make the AT experience special.
