There was a break-in and theft today at Laurel Forks Trailhead/Parking area in Hampston, TN. When I came out of the woods today, the parking area was covered with Carter County Sheriff vehicles and one very upset young woman. The windows of the car were smashed and everything in the vehicle was stolen. I had met the woman earlier on top of Pond Flats and she is a pretty squared away young lady....recent Milligan College grad and new school teacher. The Sheriff stated that he had a feeling it was a local man who drives an older model red Chevy S-10 pickup.....he's been seen hanging out at the trailheads at Laurel Forks and Watauga Lake. Just a heads up!

That sucks. Assuming that is the blue blazer on 321. Thanks for the info, Just Jim. I think there have been other incidents there . . .
(When are you coming back out for some maintenance with us?)
See you on the trail,

Hey Squid.... that's right, the blue blaze parking area on Rt. 321.
I was actually gonna come out today and do trail maintenance, but I got an email from Carl that it had been cancelled. I'll be out there to help out on the 19th for sure.

Sounds good. Instead of working in the rain on the trail today, I was working in the rain on a Habitat house in JC . . . See you next week.
See you on the trail,

About $700 stolen in today's break-in. I've been a victim there as well, a few years ago. Same M.O.: Break the window, grab what they can, hit the road. The first strech of trail there is straight & level, so an accomplice can easily tell if anyone's coming.

Be sure to report break-ins to the ATC so they can update their page (Laurie is often on here but it doesn't hurt).
