Not true of all fungi. Some live on living organisms. Yeast eat sugars.
I had a strict vegetarian once ask me if a yeast was an animal. He was worried that drinking beer would violate his vegetarian morals. I assured him that a yeast is a fungus, which is neither plant nor animal (nor protozoan, the other major class of eukaryotes).
