Miller's Newstand and the Dry cleaners next to it have closed their doors. Would be a great place for a combo shop - outfitter, coffee house, traversing wall, gravity inversion bar, bait shop, fishing gear, internet cafe, etc. Call 717-834-3848

In the spring you could also sell native plants for attracting birds and butterflies. And maybe hot and healthy food for those vegetarians during hiker season. And Mountain House Meals. And canister fuel - currently I keep some in stock and drive 10 miles to get it.

Someone please buy it soon so you can approve a mural I want for the Duncannon AT Community Designation event June 2, 2012. Grants available if I apply soon enough. It would be a mural of trails in the area embellished with things having to do with outdoors.

you don't know the half of it when it comes to mathewski's lack of filter lol!
seriously though I have NO money but if someone is going to buy this spot and needs someone that would be 100% commited to running an outfitter/general store in dunkaroos I am your man, I wont speak too soon but i think mary can vouch for me! I love duncannon and have considered moving there in the past but obviously finding employment in that area is not so easy. Ill drive down tomorrow if this is really gonna happen. If someone is willing to give a loan to hiker-trash with less than perfect credit to get this going PM me, lol.
and what would you do the other 10 months?
Hike, duh!

Hike, duh!
Hiker season in Duncannon lasts from March to October. Sure not heavy at the beginning and end but lots of day and section hikers in this areas and 3 Trail Clubs - SATC, YHC, CVATC and MCM maintains into and through Duncannon. And after our Trail Community Designation Event I have high hopes there will be lots more folks ready to buy gear to go hiking. There is also boy scouts, fisherman, kayakers, and more frequently in the area.

Oh, and lots of folks miss getting coffee and hanging out with Alfie in the morning. Besides this is a building on the square. Being an Appalachian Trail Community we want to attract more visitors to Duncannon and it's outdoor activities.
Duncannon and Perry County are included in the 500k+ population Harrisburg metropolitan area that currently has no hiking outfitter at all. There are likely more than thru-hikers who would welcome an outfitter in Duncannon especially with hours far enough into the evening.
Great fishing on the susky there.Fishing tackle shop/hiking supply could work. Also a shuttle service could help all year{a little}.Sure wish i had some money and some balls!

No, that would be Baltimore Jack (via Bruce Springsteen).;)
Matty lives out where the buses don't run..........:D
AND..........Everybody who knows Matty loves him.
Btw: Is it Mattie, Matty, Matti (MATTewskI)? :-? Personally, I think of Matty as being more masculine than Mattie (and I think he'd like that). ;) :)
so How much are they asking for to buy this spot, or is it available for a lease?

"My name is not important" quote from Matthewski's Bacon
Matty is the freaky Deeky in my W, lord of Bacon both cured and uncured. Sharer of Bulleit frontier whiskey and stories high atop the hills.

last night i was in a bar in mokpo south korea with a pair of south africans and a girl from calagary...telling my matty stories...trying to describe our first meeting, wherein he explained the physics of a bizarre earth-curvature-matching-tunnel nasa-satellite launcher he dreamed up waiting for me to pick him up at nautical dawn, and a deep-seated belief that britney spears is going to get one more run at the charts. this was june or july of 2007. i told them the stories about his hikes or brief and then extended walks together and his near-constant droning on about ****. i explained how he writes and speaks in misspelled words. that in one breath he makes me doubt the savior and in the next convinces me that he is the savior. all the while cooking his bacon.
it wasn't until i got home that i realized that i left out the part about matt's art, which is probably his singular passion eclipsing hiking and his son. but that's an entirely different egg to scramble.

Unlike many small towns, the resilient Duncannon is also largely self-reliant when it comes to financing. The borough self-finances most of its own projects, thanks to its ownership of nearly 2,000 acres of a nearby watershed. It timbers small sections of the land every two years and puts the revenue into its timber fund. The fund helps finance municipal projects and equipment, including, in recent years, an electric line truck, a garbage truck and two pickup trucks.
A pleasant surprise.
