I know this sounds like a stupid question, but is there any reason to choose my Hennessy Hammock Ultralite on my thru rather then the lighter (by 6oz) Hyperlite? I've just been given the Hyperlite and haven't slept in it yet. I guess I'm looking for folks to chime in on the lighter hammock's durability and perhaps comfort.
I plan on trying it out in the cold weather soon, but I hit Springer on March 13 and time's running out on me. Thanks!

I haven't tested the Hyperlite long term so I can't speak to durability, but the material itself feels thinner and ... more airy (I'm struggling for descriptions here), but imho is pretty much the same. I suppose it depends on what you feel more comfortable in and more confident in. The Hyperlite is a pretty cool gift. I would probably start in the Hyperlite since I would want to start as light as possible to begin with anyway. Besides, with March 13 start date, I imagine the rest of the weight 'saved' would be made up in 'extra insulation'.

Your goal is to ensure that your equipment lasts for the duration of your thru-hike, or at least you anticipate when it will need to be replaced. Most ultralight equipment requires some level of special handling anyway. I'm pretty on my equipment, UL or otherwise, so I'd go with the Hyperlite. Only you know what to expect, but I would think that the Hyperlite would easily handle a few hundred nights of hanging.

Lighter is always better if you ask me. I am also using the hyperlite on my thru hike this year. Want to make it go even lighter go with dnyaglide whoopie slings and toggles. You can even ordor two different colors to help with which end is the foot/head end. Easier to set up as well. whoopieslings.com ;)
