You make me homesick. That's one of my favorite places in Maine, regardless of season. When I was about your age we hiked there in late February, and had a rousing hockey game on the pond.
Among those along was the future Gov. King, then a struggling Brunswick lawyer. It was the first and last winter hike he ever went on, I believe.
We invited him again on the weekend before his inauguration. But for some reason he declined.

My wife and I hiked through that section last spring. Still plenty of snow at the east end of Long pond during early May. Very beautiful section. There can be some great fishing at Sabbathday pond too. Nice pics.
