Overload has scheduled the Gettysburg trip for April school vacation, we will stay in Hanover, no-tell-motel. I want to do an overnite on some section in Maryland or up to Caledonia, she's not into the idea......I am at least going to get her to drop me off for a day hike.......I'll hitch back. I just can't pass up an opportunity for virgin trail!

No, it's an old Mohawk name. It's rumoured to mean "Land of High Property Taxes."

Could be Putnam County! We left in 1986 and the property taxes in Brewster were almost my Dad's entire pension.

Banning anyone is against cafe rules (Sorry - it's the first rule if we had rules).
No fights, no spitting on the floor (at least when the ladies are in) and if it ain't friendly it shouldn't be here.
They're not rules, them's the morals your parents tried to instil in you.
:D

Suppose you don't have parents, can you still come to the cafe?

Got here just in time to see the King Gator thread being closed. I was a good boy! Yes, I am proud of myself. I remained mostly positive, I stayed on topic, and I was honest. You guys, however, were acting like you were in the Cafe.

To which I say, good job.You folks need to stop shifting over here to the Cafe to talk about closed and deleted posts and threads. This is becoming an issue.

3. Topics that have been closed, deleted, or moved by an Administrator or Moderator have been done for a reason. Users will not open new threads on the same subject or continue to make posts about subjects that have had these actions taken. Failing to comply with this policy can result in being placed into moderated status. This is not specifically a warning about moderated status but it is site policy for users to abstain from doing this.

Thanks.

OK, BB and Astro, here it is. The original flow chart (well, 99% of it anyway.)
So now that you passed your clown college exams, and armed with new insight into the workings of the male/female brain, you're in excellent shape to pursue a second career on (or off) of WB. Marriage counselor, brain surgeon, or maybe fry cook ;)

I have a timely signature. I have to admit, Whiteblaze has been good training for me. I know, I am not done being trained yet. I have misread so many people here. With a bit of patience, a real picture develops. It is so hard to read inflection. Alligator is one of those people. I now see him as much more patient and reasonable than what I 1st thought.

Hmmm... Is it okay to talk about moderators? I didn't gossip, because he is reading these. It wasn't a personal attack, but rather positive and supportive. I guess I will find out.

10. If a user is found by one of the Administrators of WhiteBlaze to be in violation of these policies we reserve the right to place that member into moderated status. This means their posts will not appear until an Administrator approves them. They may even be disapproved based on content, intent of the post, or the probable response to the post. Verbally abuse, attacking or being combative with Administrators of WhiteBlaze will also not be tolerated. Administrators are the final arbitrators of what is considered to violate this policy. Warnings will normally be given prior to putting a user into moderated status, but as a policy - no prior warning is required. The part concerning verbal abuse applies to the Moderators as well as the Admins.

Now that is an optimistic way to look at it. ;)

Very wet walk. Only one other person out. A lady with her dog who joined me for a mile or so. Love walking in the rain but still have trouble staying half dry. I have a Marmot Precip and still have some water coming through. I do have a rubber rain suit I used while working at the golf course but the coat alone weighs three pounds. Haven't tried frog togs yet, might be my next expenditure.

Perhaps a drizzling rain.
This past summer on the AT late one afternoon it was pouring hard, the creeks were raging, thunder and lightning, and the trail was ankle deep in water. As you get soaked and start thinking about hypothermia, that is not so fun. :(

At this time of year we have a bit over half the country having daylight saving.
It makes most of the east 3 hours ahead of us as we don't have it here.
You get used to people being on a different time zone.
I am actually 13 hours ahead of you but I believe you adopt daylight saving soon (10 March?) and that will make the time difference exactly 12 hours which is easy to remember.

Hey Milkman! How was the swamp?
I took a short hiatus from the cafe about the same time you went hiking, been trying to catch up since. Still about 30 pages behind, screw it, I'm yellow-blazing to get here with the rest of everybody :D
It was a good hike. First 3 days were a little cool by FL standards. Nights 1 and 2 were high 30's and night 3 was low 40's. We had to hike in water also the first 3 days and first thing in the morning feet got a little numb then you finally got used to it by mid-morning to where you feet actually felt better in the water. Hiking into the Everglades Youth Camp on the 3rd day is probably the highlight of the hike as you get a bunk in a cabin if you want and a hot shower and a supper cooked for you with salad. Breakfast in the morning to start out day 4. The last 3 days really warmed up into the low 80's and 60's at night. But it was all dry hiking except for 1 canal crossing that was about low thigh deep. Just barefooted that and that was it. Rained just a bit on night 5 but we were already in the tents and hammocks. Gone by morning. Day 6 is pretty cool as we hike into town to lunch before we hike on over to the beach. The look on the locals and tourists faces is priceless. Hiker trash walking down the street just north of where Tiger Woods and Greg Norman and a bunch of other celebs live. It's was and is a good time.

I just googled the Florida Trail for the first time. I always assumed it was about 500 miles long. I had no idea it was 1400 miles, wow.

Now I am looking at the Gear issue, and I wonder if it really the best gear or just what they happened to for free to test and try out.

I was thinking the same thing last night, but they're in business to make $$ so they cater to those that advertise with them, would be nice if they would also review the mom/pop industries that so many distance hikers support. Since they stopped putting the big gear listing in an annual issue and started selling it separately I wont renew, that was the main reason I subscribed.

I absolutely loved that book and I am not a bookworm. As a rule, I read for information and almost never for entertainment. What I loved about the book was how Stevenson described the war within everyone. So many people believe in the goodness of people. What hope does one have of seeing the capacity of evil within self if they have a utopian view of the world. He absolutely nails the subject. That book played a big part in the way I assess myself.

Jim Beam has a new label out called "Devil's Cut"....try it, you'll like it. I bought a couple of mini's for the FH Trail because they were cheaper than the regular Jim Beam, $1.09, really liked them, went to the store to get a larger bottle and was surprised at the price, not cheap, about $18 more than regular JB, guess they were selling the minis cheaper to get folks to sample it.
