You should patent that idea and sell it as a trail trading card game. Give folks something practical to do at the shelters in the evening. Starter decks and booster packs available only at the trendiest of hostels and huts.

nah,its the squeeze.we need a new silwf.the mashed potatoes have a slight iodine flaavor ever since the failed coffee experiment using the old silwf.(thanks again, elf). these drops suck. we need a newsilwf, preferrably free.

hikerboy57
08-26-2012, 21:00
Yes Why not spread this animosity out onto the trail Where in reality it's virtually non existent. So easy to avoid conflict. So easy as well to incite it. 2 different worlds sharing the same space.

I don't recall doing this, but it's possible. It's plausible that I didn't have a coffee filter and the SILWF was the only other filter available.

it's funny that so many people on the site just don't like people. unless of course they think exactly the same way. I try to keep an open mind because I usrally learn more from people that I disagree with than those that I agree with.

It is the generational change from majority conformity to majority rebellion. Add that to the internet and folks suddenly discovering the ability to say what they wish regardless of consequence or integrity. In the real world the consequences are more immediate and reactive which gives pause to those who would otherwise shoot off at the mouth.

My previous comment was a joke/parody btw...sounds like I set you off inadvertently. I seem to have a knack for that.

Good Morning Water Rat - the red nose weighs 2 ounces and the shoes are instrumental in room for tootsies - I suggest the natural Swag of white pants with polka dots and plaid backpacks and shirts. The shoes are really popular with younger crowd after years of stealing bowling shoes from the local alley.

They may become necessary for walking on water and treading lightly on Duff.

Thanks WOO and something like this I will sign up to in the near future.
I'm not that keen at this stage as I am usually in bed when you guys are on so from what you say it wouldn't work too well.
I have obviously posted a few pics too many but I can't find where my limits are specified or whether it "reloads" after a set time.
I'm a bit busy this week and am not too fussed at the moment.
Got to go to bed now.

So far so I love it, it's a really solid pack that doesn't have the unnecessary bells and whistles that get piled onto lots of packs these day. It's really only good for up to 25lbs, 30lbs max, but as long as you're under that weight it's great.

If you want to get one I'd recommend going to a good outdoor store and having them fit you with the correct pack, took the guys at Mountain Crossings over an hour to get me sized and to adjust the pack.

But, I can't seem to finish 'Lord Jim', and I've been trying to finish 'Walden' for years.Last 2 weeks I've read Walking with spring, Awol.., and Just passing thru. Go with what you feel like reading at the moment. I usually have 6 books going at one time. Different moods, require different reading material. I just can't bring myself to get a Kindle...I like HOLDING the book too much. I like being able to just pick up a book and flip through it. Besides, I have always thought it would really suck to get to a "good part" in a book and have the battery die...and not be able to plug the Kindle in. That would really tick me off.

By the way my daughter is engaged to an Irishman. If he ever takes up cyber hiking on WB I'll tell him the most appropriate username for him is already taken....

I live for the day he wanders into the cafe by mistake.

The ##@*%# wouldn't wander in unless the biggest sign outside was for Guinness.
Cafe in the title would make him think of coffee and he'd walk right past.

I gave up on the idea of a complete thru hike. I'd rather do it in 2 trips I had planned on doing the southern have this past spring But I decided to stick around and become a grandfather instead I want to go back and section Maine again next August Spring of 2014 maybe the southern half

That question was intended for OzJacko. We know from IrishPotato that Hikerboi isn't a real hiker.

If that was for me - about 2 years but planning is determining I'm going to do it.
I don't plan the detail.
Just get to Springer with some good gear, 3-4 days food and a cashed up credit card and walk north.
The rest will fall into place.:D

I love Maine and New Hampshire. I don't know whether I could survive the shenanigans down south. Actually maybe I should do the southern halfsobo from dwg beginning in August 2014. I've sectioned most of the northern half.

Sorry, the timing's been off on my last couple of posts. Didn't mean to come off sounding rude to you on #2720. No one answered originally, then you came on board, and I guess all these posts come in about the same time, so everyone's wondering who should respond.
I read your posts about your Maine section hike earlier this summer. I've got as far north as Mass. sectioning, but now I want to jump ahead and do the good stuff, after reading your account.

Just been down to the shop for something my wife needed for dinner..

My son is insisting that we spend 2 or 3 days in NYC when we get close and he wants to take the train in one direction.

Are you talking about the Pawling train station that's right on the trail?

I've just had a book out from local library with a heap of NYC walks - a few I'm keen on.
The train thing is he wants to make it stop at the AT stop. Probably on the way back is easiest.

Yeah we hadn't got into details but I did pick that up somewhere.
We will probably time it at one end or the other. Amount of zeroes is flexible.
My rough unwritten plan is to walk the trail in no more than 150 actual hiking days which should leave us up to 25 or so zeroes if we want it.
Planning on up to 4 near NYC, 2 or 3 to go to Trail Days (planning on being past it on the days) and a few more here and there and a few at the end.

For some reason, I thought that was the most amazing thing, to walk off the trail onto a train platform. I knew to expect it, but I still gawked and took pictures. Never saw anything like that on the trail down south. Hey, I don't get out much :)

Typing slow cos dinner is on my lap...
Central Park is definitely getting a few hours, I want to go to ground zero for a few minutes and a few other highlights (although I think G0 is more of a pensive lowlight I suppose).
