when i began this thread last july, it was meant to divert snarky comments off the other threads, limit the hijacking so that serious questions could get serious conflicting answers , a way to keep the nuts in the nuthouse more or less. but whats developed here is something extraordinary.we have a community that continues to grow, and we grow closer everyday.
i dont think i would be doing this right now if ozjacko hadnt sent me a pm asking about where to stay around ny, and when i offered my place, he responded with warmth and humility.at the same time, things at work were making me increasingly dissatisfied with my job, and finally came to a head last week, now ozjacko is allowing me to hitch a ride down south,bobbyjo has me hooked up at the lodge, my permit for gsnp done, and an opportunity to meet more of you in the next few months. i still plan on doing the maine trip, although ill have to shorten it to 2 weeks, so monson is still on, and i hope to meet even more of you.
we've learned so much about each other and i truly feel you are all family.thanks to everyone for all the support both for the cafe and for me.

i expect the group will grow with the ebb and flow of the herd. its not realistic to think we'll be able to stay together for an extended period of time. but i think well all pretyy much stay within a day or two of each other after the first week or so. we'll be together, but its also important that individually we're still hiking our own hikes, so theres no feelings about holding someone back or having to push too hard to keep up. i also expect the trip will develop some notoriety and our "band of gypsies" will grow.

I think getting sick just knocked out hiking two weeks in Maine for me. Only leaves one week left after using one week for a family vacation in July. I get three weeks of PTO (Vacation / Sick time) and just blew a week being sick.

I finished up all the to-do items before leaving this week end, went to the dentist to get a loose filling replaced, came home with the left side of my face missing, tried to eat a sandwich and beer for lunch, poured beer all over myself on the first sip, halfway through the sandwich looked at it and had blood on it, realized I'd been chewing on the left side of my upper lip, swollen badly and I look deformed (make that more deformed)...leason learned, dont eat until the feeling returns.

i still havent even looked at the maps yet. i bought them and the atc guidebook last year when i had been thinking of doing what im now doing, although i had postponed the half thru to some indefinite future time and went to maine instead, but now the opportunity has developed, a door has magically opened and it might be a good idea to check the maps to see where that door leads.

That's damn good. i gotta see your set up.i still have to pack it a few times to get it tight. its a lot smaller than the atmos65(im thinking 15liters smaller)but i can make it work. just have to have at it a few times.i changed from a katahdin hikerpro water filter to sawyer squeeze and drops as a backup, so i saved some space there and if i strap my tent and or pad on the bottom, ill have plenty of room,im taking the wm highlite30deg bag, ems micropuff pullover patagonia capilene, and a thermal fleece top, marmot mica rain jkt.2pr undies, 3 pr socks, insulated gloves/fleece cap,extra shirt and lightweight nylon pants for town.thermaguard long johns, so i think im okay with the lighter bag.i have a ba flycreekyul2 tent, no footprint.

My water system is identical. I have the Copper Spur UL2 w/footprint. I bringing it in case of shelter stay. Are you bringing rain pants?

I would recommend taking them. If you end up not wanting them, you can mail home at Neels Gap, NOC, or Fontana. Much better than wishing you had brought them.
