For some reason, I thought that was the most amazing thing, to walk off the trail onto a train platform. I knew to expect it, but I still gawked and took pictures. Never saw anything like that on the trail down south. Hey, I don't get out much :)

Typing slow cos dinner is on my lap...
Central Park is definitely getting a few hours, I want to go to ground zero for a fe. still can't go backw minutes and a few other highlights (although I think G0 is more of a pensive lowlight I suppose).

I still can't go there. I remember when they went up and I remember when they came down I lost a few friends and a lot of acquaintances that day

Go to your gallery, find the picture you want, right click and select Save Image As. Save it to your desktop so you can find it easily. Then click on the 3rd icon from the right (Insert Image), find the file on your desktop, click Open File, then Upload File.

There may be an easier way to di it, but I'm pretty low tech and don't know about them.

Hey coach, it seems to go by what your taking a pic of, some are bigger than other due to background and such. Try changing the quality from fine to normal, it really doesn't show to the normal eye at all. Also lets you load approx. double the amount.

I have been resizing all my gallery pics (hence the "medium" in a lot of the titles). Except for a couple I forgot I only put small pics in my posts.
It seems there is some sort of limit to what you can post - hopefully over a certain time so the limit resets. I'm assuming, unless I find out before, that it resets at the end of the month.

Wow, those photos are amazing! That trail is awesome! What kind of trees are those? If those are the kind of shelters and privies you're used to, the ones on the AT are going to be a little disappointing!
The trees featured (the "ents") are red tingle trees. They buttress out and the inside rots away. Makes for very large bases. The trees are big but not as tall as karris.
The Sandpatch shelter is brand new but nearly half of the 49 shelters are same design. The rest are basically like the Noggerup shelter. All have water tanks and privies of that design.
I am not expecting the same on the AT.
Water tanks are provided as without them you would probably be in deep trouble.
Shelters are prebuilt in our prison system and then erected on site by volunteers (e.g. sporting clubs, mine workers) with employees of our forest department as overseers.
I honestly believe we can lay claim to probably the best facilites of any long distance trail in the world.
It's all free!:D

I don't know then. I know I have a cheapo Fuji 12MP and on fine a lot of pics go over 5mb which is the limit here. When I switched to normal all the pics now run in the 2-3mb range and it lets me download them all and in multiples of 10 and pretty fast too. I only know simple stuff like this. It took me forever to get my avatar on and it ain't even a pic. Good luck in getting it like you want.

I really want to build one of these! That would be a hoot! Of course, it would suck if you ran into a logjam, or rocks, or something... I guess I would just have to tie it off when I wanted to play... Texting and driving (one of these rafts) would definitely be out... Where would the polar bear sleep? E.T. says he needs to phone home to get permission to go play on the water.

Yeah, no reason to let the bear think, "Hmmmm... No more penguins. Better switch to human poppers." If the polar bear calls dibs on the hammock - It is his! Also, the bear gets to pop the top on the first beer... I think that is fair.

Another day another 500km. I am so looking forward to 6 months of not sitting behind a steering wheel.
My ears were burning last night, as if I was being talked about....

Prescription drugs are cool.
Ibuprofen is same but usually called by manufacturers title (most common Nurofen).
I have no prescription drugs, take paracetamols and/or codeines of any brand for headaches.
My son is an asthmatic but will have a small supply and Dr's letter for any extras.
I wear glasses, but will get new ones around December/January and carry prescription for breakage replacement and a couple pair contacts for immediate use if they break/get lost.
Anyone getting hot over my avatar has a problem. Be warned, I have a highly developed gag reflex and could not possibly "turn" for anyone.

Excuse me but my parrot appeares to be dead. It is an ex-parrot!

The sketch:
A customer enters a pet shop.
Mr. Praline: 'Ello, I wish to register a complaint.
(The owner does not respond.)
Mr. Praline: 'Ello, Miss?
Owner: What do you mean "miss"?
Mr. Praline: I'm sorry, I have a cold. I wish to make a complaint!
Owner: We're closin' for lunch.
Mr. Praline: Never mind that, my lad. I wish to complain about this parrot what I purchased not half an hour ago from this very boutique.
Owner: Oh yes, the, uh, the Norwegian Blue...What's,uh...What's wrong with it?
Mr. Praline: I'll tell you what's wrong with it, my lad. 'E's dead, that's what's wrong with it!
Owner: No, no, 'e's uh,...he's resting.
Mr. Praline: Look, matey, I know a dead parrot when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now.
Owner: No no he's not dead, he's, he's restin'! Remarkable bird, the Norwegian Blue, idn'it, ay? Beautiful plumage!
Mr. Praline: The plumage don't enter into it. It's stone dead.
Owner: Nononono, no, no! 'E's resting!
Mr. Praline: All right then, if he's restin', I'll wake him up! (shouting at the cage) 'Ello, Mister Polly Parrot! I've got a lovely fresh cuttle fish for you if you
show...
(owner hits the cage)
Owner: There, he moved!
Mr. Praline: No, he didn't, that was you hitting the cage!
Owner: I never!!
Mr. Praline: Yes, you did!
Owner: I never, never did anything...
Mr. Praline: (yelling and hitting the cage repeatedly) 'ELLO POLLY!!!!! Testing! Testing! Testing! Testing! This is your nine o'clock alarm call!
(Takes parrot out of the cage and thumps its head on the counter. Throws it up in the air and watches it plummet to the floor.)
Mr. Praline: Now that's what I call a dead parrot.
Owner: No, no.....No, 'e's stunned!
Mr. Praline: STUNNED?!?
Owner: Yeah! You stunned him, just as he was wakin' up! Norwegian Blues stun easily, major.
Mr. Praline: Um...now look...now look, mate, I've definitely 'ad enough of this. That parrot is definitely deceased, and when I purchased it not 'alf an hour
ago, you assured me that its total lack of movement was due to it bein' tired and shagged out following a prolonged squawk.
Owner: Well, he's...he's, ah...probably pining for the fjords.
Mr. Praline: PININ' for the FJORDS?!?!?!? What kind of talk is that?, look, why did he fall flat on his back the moment I got 'im home?
Owner: The Norwegian Blue prefers keepin' on it's back! Remarkable bird, id'nit, squire? Lovely plumage!
Mr. Praline: Look, I took the liberty of examining that parrot when I got it home, and I discovered the only reason that it had been sitting on its perch in the
first place was that it had been NAILED there.
(pause)
Owner: Well, o'course it was nailed there! If I hadn't nailed that bird down, it would have nuzzled up to those bars, bent 'em apart with its beak, and
VOOM! Feeweeweewee!
Mr. Praline: "VOOM"?!? Mate, this bird wouldn't "voom" if you put four million volts through it! 'E's bleedin' demised!
Owner: No no! 'E's pining!
Mr. Praline: 'E's not pinin'! 'E's passed on! This parrot is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e
rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the
bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-PARROT!!
(pause)
Owner: Well, I'd better replace it, then. (he takes a quick peek behind the counter) Sorry squire, I've had a look 'round the back of the shop, and uh,
we're right out of parrots.
Mr. Praline: I see. I see, I get the picture.
Owner: I got a slug.
(pause)
Mr. Praline: Pray, does it talk?
Owner: Nnnnot really.
Mr. Praline: WELL IT'S HARDLY A BLOODY REPLACEMENT, IS IT?!!???!!?
Owner: N-no, I guess not. (gets ashamed, looks at his feet)
Mr. Praline: Well.
(pause)

(pause)
Owner: (quietly) D'you.... d'you want to come back to my place?
Mr. Praline: (looks around) Yeah, all right, sure.

I LOVE THAT ONE!!! I especially love it when the guy was banging the dead bird on the counter! :)

I just had a funny memory of when that movie first came out. Hubby and I took his daughter and my little nephew to see the Saturday afternoon showing. They were both about 8 years old I think. The theatre was just jam packed with kids and parents. When they got to the hospital scene, where ET's "light" fades out, this low sound started from the back and steadily rose in volume all around us. In 30 seconds flat, the whole theater became a sea of weeping children and shushing parents! My nephew was grabbing my sleeve and asking, "He's not going to die, is he? Is he?"

Probably should post this in the hooking up forum or somewhere but if anyone wants to join in, I'm going to be in Joyce Kilmer Forest in NC on Nov 2,3,4 - - several other cool "kids" are going - - we'll make sure to go to the Hangover, Stratton Bald, and maybe even a cold jump into Wildcat Falls - - we'll probably camp right near Wildcat Falls - might even have a campfire - - p/m me if you'd like to join in. Joyce Kilmer Wilderness is a pristine forest near the GSMNP - - the BMT runs through it - - it is smaller than the park but is likely more rugged, remote, and less traveled, fwiw. This trip will be (out of character for me) not about long distance - - we'll probably only cover about 15 miles total - - it will be mostly about hanging out in one of the nicest places I know with good people.

Back for a bit.

We cover 2 hours time difference across the country not including daylight saving issues in summer.
As I type this it is 8:32pm in Perth, 10:32pm in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, 10:02 in Adelaide and Darwin.
If it were daylight saving, it would be 11:32 in Sydney and Melbourne and 11:02 in Adelaide - the others unchanged.

No. I'm not saying live your life in reverse, but how old you are depends on how close you are to dying.
So at 56 I would be young if I am going to die at 96 (shot by a jealous husband) or old if I am going to die at 57 (when the truck rolls).
Live as if you're old and hope you're actually young.

i dont care about getting old, as long as i dont grow up.
