just wanted to post this from todays Daily Word:
Like a string of colorful beads, the days of my life follow one after another. Every bead, every day, contributes to the whole.
As I reflect on the days of my life, some may seem brighter or more colorful than others; some may appear cracked or chipped, yet each day is precious. I have been strengthened by challenge, broken open in crisis, and sustained through it all by God within. I have been humbled by my errors and encouraged by my successes. I’ve been blessed by friends and family as we’ve lived through times of joy and sorrow. For every loss I’ve grieved, I have been blessed by a time of love.
I have no regrets. I love my life!

I have four stool lined up at the counter (it's actually the island in the kitchen). I am sitting at one, where I work on my computer. Apparently, Holly hopped up and was calmly sitting on another stool. Jolly tried to hop on another stool...like her sis did...and had a horrible fail. Someone in the cafe screamed, and must have scared the sh** out of her. Stool flew, Holly jumped off her stool, and I nearly had a heart attack. I would have taken a pic, but I am now using my camera as a bottle opener. Thanks, Train Wreck...

No. I'm not saying live your life in reverse, but how old you are depends on how close you are to dying.
So at 56 I would be young if I am going to die at 96 (shot by a jealous husband) or old if I am going to die at 57 (when the truck rolls).
Live as if you're old and hope you're actually young.

This would be a great conversation around a fire with a full cooler of trail magic....:)how does this work if a jealous husband backs over you with a truck ?

No fooling.......Pepes cousin was in our garage last nite, stunk the whole 1st floor up. I managed to open the door without getting sprayed. 30 minutes later I watched him prance out, I jigled the door handle and he ran off. I closed the overhead door quick before he came back in.............downstairs still smells like the cafe:eek:

Pretty much, we only did a short walk in Maine. It was fine, but I haven't been on my bike, and I'm still alittle stiff. Next week I'm back on the ice, then we'll see.. That will cut my miles down though. We like to eat here, so I have to keep skateing! I will keep 1 weekend a month open, plus some day hike time. By 15 Sept, I'll have my fall schedule, we'll get together, maybe twist the Elfs arm to come along!

Sounds like fun. If we bring him some dead rodents - Pepe excepted, of course - the Owl will come willingly. :)

We should plan to do at least one Whites backpack. I have friends who are doing their 48th of the 48 4000-footers, Carrigain, on September 29. That could be a fun weekend. Backpack into Pemi East which is free, and then hike to Carrigain from the west side via Desolation Trail, meeting them at the summit (they'll come in from the east via Sawyer River Road route, doubtless), returning to camp same day for a second overnight. Take on the Owl's Head the next day (or we could do the Bonds, instead), return and strike camp, then head home from there with two of the most remote 4Ks, one of them widely reknowned for its extraordinary views (Carrigain), in the bag.

Sound like an idea?

OK. I hope to get to the Whites four or five times before they get socked in with snow. More if possible. Would like to do a good dozen of the 4000-footers in that time. Though I've bagged Moosilauke, I'd love to do it again, the SOBO traverse from Kinsman Notch. Maybe get crazy and try to do Franconia Notch to Glencliff in two days. There's plenty of hikes to be done, that's for sure. A Tripyramids-Whiteface-Passaconaway weekend would be fun, too.

Hey guys. What have I missed?? HB, ever find that last bullet? ;-) Just checking in right now. Going to be a busy September...Already has been. Moving one step closer to getting my black belt, so it's the crunch into the last 2 tests before the big test. Lots of practicing and stuff going on. Glad to see the place is still standing! Off to bed for me...Nursing a mild concussion and a gash above my eye...Fun fun!!!! At least I was having fun when I got it hahaha. An errant fist at taekwondo...Ahhh fun times. Had a nice little impromptu hike yesterday on the New England National Scenic Trail, Metacomet portion. There and back, three miles each way, from Rt. 20 north over Peak Mountain. Very pretty forests and occasional cliff-top views. I'm close to having finished the northern part of the Metacomet, only 2.2 miles to the roadwalk. Got hit by light rain about 30 mins from my car, then heavier 10 mins later, then a full-on gully-washer in the last 10. Heaviest rain I've seen in almost 6 years, had to make my way down the fairly steep last stretch quite gingerly. Nice little hike, took me 2:27 - made good time.

Hahaha Coach!!! Very funny my man. I keep saying "It could have been worse!!".
Driver, that sounds awesome!! Good time considering the rain.
I spent last weekend in NJ at taekwondo summer camp with my grandmaster and a Korean national olympic champ (now a coach). It was a great time. Tiring but learned a ton and had fun. Done some hiking here and there after my AT adventure in July. Unfortunately my area doesn't have too many good trails. I have to drive about 2 hours or more to get to some decent trails, so it's limiting especially with studying for my upcoming tests in my last push for black belt and helping to teach special ed style taekwondo etc...But I'm having fun with what hiking I can do and that's the main point. Also need to get back into my trail running. Had fun with that last year, but sadly I've slacked this year on it. :-( Oops... haha

Meant to say heaviest rain I've seen on trail in that time. Thanks, Dusty. It was a good hike. Glad I was able to do it at the last minute. Was 15 mins past dark when I arrived to my car, soaking wet, the moreso b/c, not having planned the hike, I only had a cotton tee and cotton shorts for the trip. Fortunately, I always carry the trekking poles in the back seat, as I was wearing my old, old sneakers with very worn soles. Would've been slipping and sliding in that last stretch but for the TPs. The rain added some pizzazz to the end of the trip. Was so bad I couldn't drive more than 35 on the very new, very well graded roadbed of Rt. 20 near Bradley Airport. Thankfully no thunder to accompany.

As long as you're enjoying yourself and not hurting anyone (too much ;) ), that's the key, Dusty. When you get out for a good hike, where do you go? 'Skills? 'Daks? Pennsylvania?

Corporal_Dusty
09-02-2012, 13:18
I like to go to the 'Skills when I can. The Long Path also. Most of that is within a couple hour driving distance, tho areas like Huntersfield Mountain was severely overgrown my last time up there. My mom was born in Margaretville and there are some trails near there that are on my bucket list as well. I'm in an area known as "The foothills of the Catskills" haha I'm surrounded by nice hills and stuff but sadly, not enough trails. I've seen plenty of areas where I've said "Wow...that'd be an awesome place to start a trail", but sadly it's all private land. Ugh.

I LOVE grits. Even cold ones.
I was raised on them. What we didn't eat in the morning, sat in a pot on the stove, kids running through the house, gone by lunch.

We are spoiled here in southern Connecticut. Each Apizza Parlour has has one particular pie that is better than the rest. Tolli's, in my home town has the most awesome sausage pie. And of course the best make their own sauce.

I liked both books, but Southbound was my favorite. I think that was because of how much they learned about the trail. In the second book, they continued to learn about the trail, but...it wasn't the same. It didn't seem like there were as many "ah-ha!" moments. Walking Home was still an excellent book.
