Coach learned to do some pretty awesome haiku. He also failed to show up to prevent a hostel takeover, also known as the High Koo, by myself, who is next in line to the poho throne by virtue of post-osity. The bloodless coup is in process even as we speak and will culminate when I pass HB in post count in the cafe, maybe as soon as this weekend!!! mwah ha ha ha ha!!! *evil laughter*

So there I am, sitting at the bar in the cafe, ready to enjoy a cup of that YERBA MATE SUPERFOOD tea (brewed with water from a SAWYER INLINE WATER FILTER, of course!), when all of a sudden my seat at the bar stool comes unscrewed, and there I am sprawling on the floor!

My brain was fully engaged. I accomplished all I set out to do. A good time was had by all. I, for one, enjoy laughter... even at my own expense. I think they had fun. That is the important thing. It would have been even more fun, had I had some backup.

1st off I am not a doctor, nor do I play one in the Café. Having said that I have an opinion (I know many will be shocked at that proclamation).

In short: I have sucked it up, endured the pain, avoided meds, taken supplements, and continue to run. I doubt that would be the best path for all. It has worked pretty good for me so far. Then again, I am pretty stubborn and have a high threshold for pain.


What I do, is suck it up, because, I too have a high threshold for pain. Just because my knees are screaming at me, doesn't mean I am in huge, debilitating pain. It's annoying and makes me walk funny! Supplements, Vit. D, and all that help me I think.

Only 400 mg. 800 is recommended. Some claim you should get it with black pepper. I believe in slow and steady and all things in moderation.
I'll check into turmeric. My doc is really good about alternative medicine aka supplements and such.

I do not think we have the whole story here. Having spent my entire life in Maine, I find it difficult to believe this man lived this way for 27 years. I suspect he moved into summer cabins in the winter. There are a ton of cabins on lakes up here that no one goes near except for a few weeks in the summer each year. I peeked in a few as a teenager while ice fishing. I never touched anything, but stood in amazement in a few that anything remained in these things.

If no one come out, he would go in and rob the place. This type of event prompts many to leave the cabins unlocked. Locks only keep honest people out. If the thief comes, at least the lock won't need to be replaced. Many a summer vacationer goes through the yearly "what did I lose this year" checkup. Like I said, I stood in many cabins, none of which we locked. Times are changing and people are adapting. Perhaps my story no longer applies. Dangerous ice and conditions...

For about a half mile south of the turn to go to the shelter at Mt. Collins and all the way to the shelter and for about a half mile north of that junc...tion, there are very dangerous conditions. The trail is almost solid ice. The climb up Clingmans from Mt. Collins gap to the top is again solid ice and very hard to walk. There has been two dislocated shoulders, a broken wrist, and a broken upper arm. The broken wrist belong to a concert pianist from Austria and more then likely is a career ender. If you have any type of ice grippers to wear on you hiking boots, wear them and save yourself a broken bone or some other injury that will take you off trail. In the late afternoon the conditions become better because of some melting but still dangerous. Be careful everyone that is in the Smoky Mountains. Some parts of the trail are muddy and then perfect for hiking. Around the next bend in the trail there is solid ice. Just thought I'd let you know. Thanks...
