I've been there Rasty. It's pretty nice. I stuck by head in the "bunk" room. It was kinda dark and "dungeon like" so we decided to rent a cabin instead. It was the BEST!! We rode bikes while we here there too! :) It was fun! Right as we were coming into Uncle Johnny's we encountered a "lady hiker" at the last shelter. She had "issues". :) Folks at Uncle Johnny's was really helpful to her. I was impressed. The guy that shuttled us into town seem "burned out"... but he was nice to us! :) I never saw Uncle Johnny himself.

So I guess it is HYOH, PYOP, and EYOC. ;)

He posted on the Standing Bear Farm thread a couple of days ago.

Has anyone ever PMed him, letting him know the Cafe might be the kind of place he would enjoy hanging out at?

35000 is getting close. Where is Bird Brain.

Probably lurking in the background just waiting to pounce at the right time.

Oh yes, of course!!! I don't think they celebrate in Damascus. We'll have to ask LW!

Hey, I have lived overseas enough to know that you can celebrate any holiday you want if you are willing to prepare for it.

Is there a monument on the AT where his plane went down?

Not at the exact spot the plane crashed but close to it. Monument is about 50 yards off the AT. Between Niday and Pickle Branch shelters in Va.

Grew up hearing "even a blind hog finds an acorn". Squirrel must be the sophisticated suburban version. :)
