My 34 mile slackpack +4 with pack came at spur of the moment at rt 9 in VT when we ran into King. As we were descending to the road, we heard running behind us. We were wondering who could be so close behind us even though we slept in & B: who was crazy enough to be running. It was another through hiker we knew. King was slacking him & giving us a ride in Manchester Center. When we got to the road Cisco looked at me & asked if I wanted to slack to Manchester. I looked at him & said it's 30+ miles away & is already 10am! He just smiled & Said we could do it & off we went. At midnight, beat & totally warn out standing in deserted town center we realized neither of us had our town guides or knew where the Hostel was. Luckily a car pulled out of an alley by us & we got directions.

We tried to be as quiet as we could entering the church basement, but couldn't find our packs. Hikers were strew about on couches & their mats & we found Gator who rode up with our packs. As we tried to wake him whispering where our pack were, unbeknownst to us he was having a nightmare about his pack being stolen. He wakes up from a dead sleep screaming, "Our packs, where the F@#* are our packs!" By the time we settled him down everyone was awake.

well i just finished saying goodbye to much of my trail family, and it wasnt easy.starface and homebrew have been my companions for the past week or so, and the slackpack we did from iron mtn rd back to uncle johnnies was one of the best days f my life, a day of pure joy from start to finish.
we spent an hour at beauty spot with the soundtrack to the sound of music playing on starface's i phone in the background, and we never stopped smiling from dawn to dusk.

HB, that is awesome! I am sure you made some great memories. While we would loved to have seen you do a thru, it will great to have you back as a regular in "your" Cafe. :sun

near the dreaded Roller Coaster...fun? NOT.

Worst part about it, IMO, is that there is no reward (view) everytime you hit the top of each hill. Just up then down. Repeat. At least the southern half below Rt. 7. that I have done is like that.

Folks, if there's a hot topic thread causing problems elsewhere, it is not particularly wise to drag the argument over to this one. It is not cool for you guys to retreat into this thread and continue the problem, this thread is public not a private room.

If a thread is not sitting well with you, donating members have the option to put the thread on ignore.

Yep its not wise....
I am not exactly sure what you are talking about... I know we have each others back from time to time.. I really respect that... but some times... we all get frustrated and have to vent, - in jest... respectfully. Hot topic threads are clearly more work... Dogs, Scouting, trolls etc. I think as a group we are all trying to do the right thing. But even when I flag something inappropriate it still stays up for months... My point is when we try to help the lower mods... they don't get the message. Ali its something to consider.

We appreciate the heads up but that doesn't mean everyone is going to agree with you. It's not what I am talking about though. The problem being discussed is not that another moderator ignored a reported post. I was right on top of the Scout thread I made the split myself, it was monitored and moderated. The problem here is continuing on when you (youse guys) shouldn't as that is not helping in any way at all. You (youse guys) can't drag a hot button issue over to this thread after I have placed two warnings about it in the original thread. This thread, the Cafe thread is public. This isn't a private room. You (youse poho guys) run the risk of transferring the problem over to here, particularly if several of youse guys do it.

We are not going to keep on going back and forth with this in the forums though. If you have something to add send a PM.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes.
ATM that video reminds me of Miss Janet. Ask me about it one day and I'll explain.
At Blue Blaze Cafe with IM, HB, AA, LW, Coach and others.
All is indeed bloody good in the world (except my feet hurt).

You're killing me with that pie, HM. Every time I open this up to read new posts it's the first one I see. Nothing I've had today looks as tasty as that thing. Definitely not the salad I had for lunch. ;)

FC, so you just had to reply back to it at just the right time so it would be at the top of the next page.

Isn't there Santa Land, or something up there??? Must be ponies, or goats, or sheep.....

I get tired of all the bashing of scouting here at WB from people that have never been or don't have kids... they hear that retoric on the news about gay's and scouting and then they need to post it here. I give up... the more I post those threads the more folk get angry at me when I try to defend the good in the organization.

Agree. BSA and GSUSA are two great organizations, that do a tremendous amount of good for our youth. I thank you for what you have done. I did not have a son, so no BSA for me, but my mom/brother did. And I for many years, as a girl and adult in GSUSA. Our troop STILL does much of the outdoor experience, even though that is not as large a component as it still is with boys. Girls that go through 'our' troop are learning to be independent, yes even in the outdoors. We participated in the 'Great Girl Scout Hike' as part of the 100th anniversary of GS. That was to hike any part of the AT in any part of the year, no matter how short or long. It also allowed for hiking in other areas, if the AT was not accessible for them. So we did both!! And will continue again this summer, tick off a few more on the AT! Yeah us! All of this to say, " GO BSA and GSUSA!"

Been to both. Most of summer vacations as a child were spent visiting my fathers family in Berlin, so over the years we hit them all. Six Gun City, Flume, Steam Town, Lost River...

I think today is 10 years since Old Man of the mountain fell down.

I remember Clarks Trading Post but I don't remember the Tuttle house.

My mom's HS classmate was killed by one the Clarks Trading Post black bear. He was feeding them like they always did for years. One the the bear just attacked him, for no reason, and killed him.

MM- I love the Flume and all that.. Do you remember the Basin? I loved going there!!

Well, it might be a lil while yet.. we are about to finish PA in 2 weeks ( all but 48 miles or so)... Then, we have all of New Jersey, New York (we've done 7 miles in NY) CT and MA are done- so then it's on to VT, NH and Maine after that.
