Just doing the Maine section and spur trails to knock out as many 4000' hills as we can. The plan is 29 days. There are 14 4000' hills in Maine. We will be hitting 11 of them on our little walk. The only 3 will we not make it to are North Brother. Redington, and Speck. We will get Speck and Redington next year. Not sure when we will get North Brother. Just one more shakedown and a lot of day hikes.

Nice. I like pics that have the actual AT or AT route in them. My faves are ones from the AT of the AT. I like Views from WaterRock Knob on the BRP. You can see all the way from Standing Indian to Max Patch. You can see the whole route of the AT thru the Smokies from WaterRock Knob. I could spend all day up there.

If I ever do make it to NY, NY perhaps I should stay away from the real pizza places so I do not ruin my simple taste. ;)

I was an azzt mngr at Dominoes in the early 70's until I quit to go to college (what a mistake, all my friends are millionaires now). The pizza was OK if you made it yourself with all the xtras. Otherwise, I agree with Rasty (amazing, ain't it).

HB, the more I think about it, the more awesome your flip flop hike is going to be. You got to hang with the bubble for six weeks or so, experience what it was like (probably both good and bad),passing some so you got to meet even more. Now when you head SOBO in August you get to meet them all again.
Just totally awesome! :sun

I saw your signature. In the FL Keys they have the Key Deer (almost extinct). Our version is called Key Lyme Disease.

Ba dum boom. I'll be here all week.
The majority of Key deer are on Big Pine Key. No Name Pub has the best Key Lime Pie anywhere. If you can find the place. Hint: it's on No Name Key. If you're on Big Pine your close.

Hi back Robin.

Just got back from a shakedown hike of Little Jackson And Tumbledown Pond. Got down to the mid 30's overnight. Feet were cold in my 45+ bag. Learned a few more things. Getting there.

All my hikes are shake downs at this point...glad you learned, I learned too....was a great hike!

It appears that I underestimated the low temperature for Monday night. This site lists it at 28.

Yup agree HB. They (OZ and IM) got new super feet. :) Another outfitter somewhere sold IM the "sample" super feet. that's all they had in his size. Good thing IM told them he wouldn't pay full price for them. It's hard to find the right shoe for IM. The trail runners don't come in his shoe size. :( I took them to one of the best athletic shoe places in Roanoke. The local outfitters didn't have what any of them or what the other hikers needed for shoes. They all recognized me now at Fleet Feet... lol! I just got new super feet before my hiking trip in PA ... loved them!

What's vinyl? Isn't that what they used to put in old cars? ;)

My youngest have no idea what a casette tape is let alone 8-track or an LP. I still remember my first and only 45 I got with my first turntable. It played "It's a small world" and I played it all day (it WAS my birthday) and my mom hated it so much she took the record and never gave it back. After that it was LPs all the way until the cassette and then the awe-inspiring CD. I'm sure my grandkids (if I'm blessed with them) will ask me to play them an old "M-P-3" My how time flies...

Years ago while climbing the Precipice trail in Acadia, in the rain, I actually pulled one of the iron rungs out of the mountain. Scared the bejesus out if me and made me lose any of the nerve I had left at the time.

Felt like you were electrocuted didn't it. I stepped off the trail one time "sightseeing" as I walked. Fell about 20ft that could have been 700. Just another of one of the many times I've died. Sent a shock right through me.

They all recognized me now at Fleet Feet... lol! I just got new super feet before my hiking trip in PA ... loved them!

Years ago while climbing the Precipice trail in Acadia, in the rain, I actually pulled one of the iron rungs out of the mountain. Scared the bejesus out if me and made me lose any of the nerve I had left at the time.
a few years back i was free climbing a 40 ft boulder, was up about 2/3 of the way and all of a sudden couldnt find any route higher. i knew i couldnt downclimb what i had just come up, and couldnt find any place to move higher above me, i got what they call "sewing machine legs" as panic seeped in. i was about 25 or 30 ft off the deck, with boulders around the base of the rock i was climbing, a fall at the very least would have meant some broken bones. i closed my eyes and got my breathing under control, and the panic subsided. i looked around and finally saw a couple of nubbins to the right.was able to traverse over a few feet and finally saw the route to the top, got up and over , it was an easy scramble off the other side.

I was headed for green. Green is my favorite color. I currently have New Balance MT610 trail runners. I started with heavier ones but quickly ditched them after a black toe. This whole process has been difficult. It has made me rethink everything. I have hiked all my life in sandals and no socks. Never had an issue. Maybe I should have stuck with them.
