Thanks, guys. Here are some more pics, panoramas of Sages. I've finally gotten the hang of the panorama feature with my phone cam - look out world! The first of from just upstream of the brook crossing, the last is from just downstream of the log bridge to the Sages Campsite, the others in between.

Yeah.
Good the last two days with the slightly higher water level.
Army pleased Violet and I by going over both days.
Totally different set of sore muscles now.
At least all the bits and pieces in my feet are now rested and no longer hurt.

The river was a fantastic experience and I saw many things not on view on the trail.
Herons, bald eagles, deer swimming, a mink swimming, turtles and numerous types of fish.
Americans at play on the water.

It was all good.Glad your feet have recovered. Yes, travel by water can definitely have many benefits, not the least of which is experiencing a different type of nature than on the trail.

It might be a bit quick for american ears with the accent and all but their commentaries on gymnastics had Australia in stitches.
"battered savs" and "hello boys" may or may not quite be understood here but in Australia it made gymnastics much better viewing.enjoyed watching the dives; didn't quite understand the humor unless it was all the gauntlets that were thrown down, picked up and shoved at the other divers.

IM and I just had a bit of a session and discussed the fact that in a couple of days we cross the Mason-Dixon line.

We would like to put it out there that the north has a bit of an act to follow.
The south and by that we mean the people of the south, have been the most warmhearted, wonderful people we have encountered anywhere.
You get nice people all over the world but the welcome from such a high percentage of the people we have encountered is amazing.
And to make it even better, y'all been a pleasure to listen to with them accents.:banana

Glad you're doing better, Andy. It's amazing how one can hike the hardest trail and emerge unscathed, only to trip and bust a shin or the like in the comfort of one's home or yard. 'Tother day, hiking the slick and wet A.T., I was fine, but on the easy Northwest Road, I stumbled, in almost the same spot I did on my first hike of the area - roots were the culprit both times, fortunately no harm, no foul.

I love my state, but if you want warm friendly people it is best to stay out of the York, Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Androscoggin, Lincoln, and Kennebec. There are some nice people there, but by percentage you will find them easier in the other counties. My favorite is Washington. It is hard to beat the southern people. They proudly have that reputation for a reason. One place I believe we have them beat is the scenery. Maine has many viewpoints. Most (including the locals) have not seen them all. You have not seen Maine until you have been in its rivers, lakes, and streams, on its hills and trails, and also seen it from the ocean. It is a ever changing landscape, covered in white, green, foliage, and brown. Maine is not the most friendly spot, but IMHO it is the most beautiful spot.

Back in the house for a minute or 2. It is raining out and we have an event tonight. 1st day of fishing we caught about 40 bass in a couple of hours. They are all swimming still. I love to catch them, but don't eat bass. My better half caught the biggest so far (19.5"). Oh well... I am used to it.

There is some truth to what you say. They were many sizes, but some are quite battle scarred by the end of our 2 weeks. I used to keep a log of every fish caught because my friends were saying that I exaggerated. I average in the mid 300's in the 2 weeks we are there. Normally I get a few over 20 which is good for Maine. I never keep any. I love catching them again and again. Bass are so stupid.

Allman Brothers also started in Jacksonville, though sometimes associate more with Macon, GA where they spent some time later on. The Outlaws were from Tampa, and Tom Petty from Gainesville. While Jimmy Buffet was from Mobile, AL, he often associated more with Key West.

Some irony due to songs that people associate Lynyrd Skynryd with Alabama and the Allman Brothers with Georgia, when they were both Florida bands.

Yeah, I remember those times well. Once caught 6 bands together on Saturday in Orlando. Johnny Van Zant Band, Triumph, Point Blank, Pat Travers, Rossington Collins, and ZZ Top. I remember that so well because it was just after ZZ Top had taken some time off and it was the first time I got to see them.

One of the times we went to go see Molly Hatchet we took one of my older cousins along with us. He was like a hippy from the 60s, and was not really into the mid-late 70s music we were into at the time. So we are riding down playing Molly Hatchet and he was just listening, but when Its All Over Now came on he starts singing along, and we were like wow how does he know the words. So he explains it was a Rolling Stones song, so while we were sharing our music with him, this also opened us up to all of the great music before us.

I always marvel at people who say, "It must be so easy for you to look so skinny" but if only they knew the months of work in the gym and the daily eating discipline. Sorry Astro, temporarily lost the internet. I think it's a marketing ploy. We got a letter the other day saying that our service provider has upgraded their system and now we can get even faster connections. We are (now were) completely happy with our speed. But, it seems ever since around the time of the letter the service seems like it has slowed down. Hmmm. I wonder why. Anyway, to answer your question, yes have caught many a snook. Our favorite way it to fish from these 2 piers at the spillway where the fresh water empties into the intracoastal waterway. There's usually a slot limit and it can be hard at times to get a keeper but boy are they good.

doesn't that smiley face mean I'm not too serious? ;) Maine is a great state. (but I so don't like the winters). WAY better than Mass.

I knew you were ribbing. I am serious that the south does it up right when it comes to being friendly. I am also serious that I hate what the populated counties of Maine are becoming. I am starting to feel old. I remember neighbors loving neighbors. I don't even know all my neighbors today. A large part of this is because they look at you like you have 3 heads if you try to be friendly. Perhaps this is world wide. I don't know. I know this much: I have never been put off by someone 100 miles south of DC. The snobs are probably there too. I just have not found them yet.

You have to get to Machias to see the great people of Maine.

Bath is where my husband decided he didn't like being in the Navy so much. So he took a little vacation from vacationland. He 'forgot' to get permission was the problem. He was made to see the error of his way and is now allowed back in Maine.

I've only been as far as Acadia, and Millinocket(?), to raft, and Greenville, to get HB57. When I was a kid I loaded live chickens all over western. My X and I, have spent numerous weeks in Booth Bay. I really like sitting on Pemmequid Point. Reds in Wiscasset, The Harraseekett, to shop till we drop. We have sailed from Isle of Shoals to Roque Island and many places in between. Maine is absolutely breathless from about 2 miles out. The islands reach like fingers into the ocean with rolling hills for a backdrop. No sailing this year though. Walking instead.

My MOS was 'Refuel Trk Driver'. I fueled jets and helos from a truck. In Japan in the winter I had night duty. Because I was from New England, they didn't want those southern boys driving 5000 gallons of JP-5 around those jets on an icey flight line:D

Being a southern boy who never saw snow until he was 20, I would have been more than glad to let you have that assignment. :)

Coach, so was hockey something the Japanese played before WWII, or was it just something the MacArthur brought over afterwards?

I don't really know.....I only knew the important phrases.....we anti'ed up the Yen for the ice and played, not to much talking. I will say that New England ice hockey and Japanese Ice Hockey was alittle different.

Where's Mountain Mike?

I think Smike may have kidnapped him again.
